Adrian Colbert today told 247 that he is indeed playing CB not Safety here. I'm not a big fan of moving Safeties to CB for obvious reasons like he's never played CB before and it's one of the toughest positions to play on the field but if they want him there then they have enough leeway being their first year that I won't complain.

Thoughts?

I don't normally like it either but, in this case I'm ok with it. He has the speed to play corner and with his size and safety back ground could be a very good press corner with how physical he is. Being 6'1 210 and runs a high 4.4 to to 4.5 is awesome. The biggest question mark I have is how stiff is he going to be? Going to be interesting to see if he picks up the hip movements. The good thing about him not playing the position before is Rumph can teach him exactly how he wants it done.

He's a 1 year rental, they have nothing to lose by adding a body to CB. I don't think they ever recruited him here with a real intention of playing him at S. We're too short at CB with elder, young, and jaq johnson all being under 5'10. (i think jaq will get most his reps at nickel)

I wouldn't be worried about this staff playing people out of position this seems like an obvious stop gap solution.

having anything other than Paul Williams as a coach should help this unit tremendously

Hip manipulation will be key. Time for Rumph to prove his worth by teaching TECHNIQUE. Hope Colbert watches enough FILM to ease the transition.

All we can do is trust the staff on this one. For what Diaz wants to do he may be the better fit. Him and Redwine could start in a zone system as big physical press corners with Corn in the Nickel.

Play more of a seattle 4-3 and have Jamal Carter play Strong Safety/rover. That would/should be a physical/run defending DB group.

and hopefully a ferocious D line will cover up the weakness at corner as the Qb won't be able to set up a picnic in the backfield like previous seasons

Exactly. Simple Formula. Disruptive D-line leads to sacks/ quick throws.

Big physical corners stall timed routes/quick throws with press which lead to more sacks or more interceptions.

Haven't seen him play CB nor J. Johnson for that matter. Rumph did mention he has the speed and they are working on getting him even faster previously. My only question is his ability to change directions and find the ball. Defensive line pressure will be the key to DB success this year.

I think the coaches know what they're doing.

The coaches are doing this because they are desperate for help at CB not because they want to.

You left out that he said he has played corner before. He said he played in high school and last year at texas late in the season he was working at corner.

Zero college experience at corner but played it in high school. Doesn't mean a whole lot I know but his Texas position coach told him he should've been a corner and that was his natural position.
