Yeah, Im probably biased because of the subject matter but I particularly enjoyed this one. In my view, Jim Kelly is the most influential and important player in this programs history(Ted Hendricks is the most accomplished) because when he came into the program they were losing to FAMU at home and there was talk of shuddering the football team or at least dropping down in classification. By the time he left, he had begun 'QB U' and had left the program where it was on the verge of winning a national title.

This swaggering gunslinger from Pennsylvania was the epicenter of it all( and he Howard, of course)

Many of the great early UM victories as the dynasty of the 80's was being constructed came with him as the triggerman.

He even began the tradition of UM alum going to games and being on the sidelines, which was a trademark of the Hurricanes program

This show had some great footage of his time at Miami and really his life journey after his playing days was very poignant.

So if you have some time I'd DVR this and give this a look-see

I saw this last night. Excellent piece. The thing that really stuck out to me was that I had actually forgotten how good Kelly was. Watching those classic Kelly highlights had me in awe. We haven't had a better pure passer since Kelly IMO. Some of those throws were just insane. Kelly could make every throw and his footwork was elite. He was a natural. Kelly made everything look so easy. What I would give to see another Jim Kelly come through Coral Gables. Kelly put QBU on the map.

Crazy to think JoePa wanted him to come to PSU to be a linebacker.

Arguably the best pure passer we had at the U.

Even better than Vinny.

Oh, I dont think there's any doubt about that. If you give Kelly the likes of 'the Bomb Squad'(Irvin, Blades, Perriman) and Bratton and Highsmith in the backfield, Kelly might have put up 45 points a game and IMO, we win national titles in both 85 and 86. Jim Kelly was special

Miami never lost to FAMU at home. And losing to FAMU in 79' wasn't an upset, a lot of the players on that FAMU team were eventually the same type of players that Howard convinced to come to UM.

Saw it last night. Great piece. Jim on occasion came to Duffy’s Tavern o Red Rd on Sundays to watch NFL games. He was smart knowing none of us would let him buy his own beer.

Is it just me or have chicks gotten so much hotter since the 80s? Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface as Elvira was a 100% smoke though

Women have become more fake and less authentic. More makeup. More hair products. Fake body parts.

Yeah dang it I meant to catch that last night but had out patient surgery for kidney stones yesterday (ouch) and was pretty well spaced out on Dilaudid and morphine trying to shake the cobwebs this morning to ready for the beers this afternoon

He was on the team that lost to FAMU.

And you're correct too.

It was actually in Tallahassee.

Just to give you some perspective on how much the game has changed.

His best season at Miami was 1981.

168 of 285 (58.9%), 2,403 yards, 14 TD's, 14 INT's

Frank Costa basically put up the same season in 1994 and was killed by the fan base.

Jim is one of the my favorite Miami figures, though. Cool dude. Always came back to games back in the 1980's to support the team. Still reps the Canes today.

Game has changed indeed. Guys like Fouts, Marino, & Montana put up horrible College numbers compared to today's standards.
