82 Do we know what hit did it?

Given the fact that Malek's injury came after a pretty innocuous play, Ahmmon's could've happened at any time during LSU.
 
Or it could have happened in camp, but he didn't realize it at the time. Didn't necessarily have to have happened in a game.
 
Why are you dopes obsessed with tracking this poor kid’s injury? Sometimes, people have congenital abnormalities that get discovered by accident. Maybe he had a lingering sore neck and got an MRI and there it was.

UM is lucky to be associated with the best spinal program in the world.

this. i saw one dude on twitter begging for journalists to find out bc UM wont release the details. leave the kid alone and let him move on. this obviously hurts him and if he wants to tell the story, he can, otherwise let it be.

the insight is that he can never play again. obviously, UM doesnt want to release the details of the injury and want to keep it private. reynolds said richards will say something later this week.
 
I think it’s a mistake to automatically call this a neck “injury” caused on the field. Rather, I’d consider a broader description that includes a medical “ condition” that bans further play in a collision sport.

Ex. Michael Irvin’s career ended quickly after he did injure his neck on a tough tackle. But, it was the examination of that injury that led to the rapid end to his career. He was diagnosed with spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal cord area) which made it much more likely that a future injury could lead to a catastrophic event, eg death or paralysis.

Ex. Peyton Manning’s older brother had that same condition that ended his career as a WR at Ole Miss. He simply could not risk catastrophic injury. Neither he nor Michael had any idea that they had this condition.

Without further info, I'm leaning towards this description of Ahmon’s health issues. So glad he can lead a normal life.

It doesn’t matter what UM wants or doesn’t want. There are actual laws that prohibit the disclosure of medical information.

For the older people that have kids in college here, does it sound right to you that the university would disclose specific medical information about your children? That should answer everyone’s questions. Don’t be f*cking idiots.

They just want to find some way to blame Malik or Rick or both to advance some faqqy agenda and gossip like old hags.

It's weird enough that for some reason privacy rights regarding injuries don't apply to athletes at the collegiate or pro level.

They do have privacy rights. That’s why you hear this lower extremity stuff. They have to explicitly give permission so the exact nature of their injuries are revealed, but schools/coaches rarely ask and in fact don’t want to give much detail anyway.
 
Remember Chris C. Jones? TE in Butch’s days. Had a neck stinger. Wouldn’t heal right. MRI or XRays revealed a congenital narrowing of the spinal column. The wrong hit and he’s a quadriplegic or dead. If I remember correctly, he was taken off the practice field immediately and told he was done with football. No questions. No argument.

As @TheFranchise said, we should be grateful UM works with an elite spinal center, whose involvment was discovering the issue.
