The Miami Hurricanes have been in hot pursuit for one of the nation's best edge rushers in the 2028 class, Asher Ghioto. He is viewed as a five-star prospect out of Jacksonville (Fla.) where he plays his high school football for The Bolles School--a school that is home to many top prospects in the country.
Miami Hurricanes' defensive line Coach Jason Taylor has made it known that Ghioto is a top priority in the class and will do anything to get him to Miami. I say it every time and I will say it again: When you have a legitimate option to be coached by NFL Hall of Famer Jason Taylor, who developed two first-round edge rushers into the NFL, Rueben Bain and Akheem Mesidor. It makes it hard not to consider playing for Miami.
He believes that he can thrive in defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman's system and fit into Jason Taylor edge-rusher scheme: "I think I’d fit perfectly into their system," he added. "I like their attack style and physical defense. I feel like I can move up and down the line and play in many different positions."
Ghioto has been enjoying the attention so far from the Hurricanes' coaching staff, naming the Hurricanes a top school: "I’m getting a lot of attention from Miami, Florida, Georgia, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Texas, Ohio State, Oklahoma, South Carolina, USC, UCLA, Ole Miss, Oregon, and a few others."
According to multiple sources, the Hurricanes are considered as one of the top dogs in his recruitment.
Ghioto noted that he doesn't have any plans on making a college decision anytime soon, he is fully focused on his junior season and wants to win a state championship: "I haven’t made any decisions yet," he added. "I’ve been pretty focused on playing football and improving my skills. I feel like I still have plenty of time to make that decision. My main focus right now is helping my team get back to the state championship."
He will be in attendance for the Miami Hurricanes rivalry game against the Florida State Seminoles on October 17th, headlining the visitors list group: "I’m coming to Miami for the Florida State game. I’ll also be visiting Florida, Georgia, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Clemson, Ohio State, and Ole Miss."
According to the 247Sports Recruiting Rankings, he is currently viewed as the nation's No. 3 overall player in his class, No. 1 edge rusher, and No. 2 player out of Florida. This past season, he recorded 84 tackles, 23 sacks, two pass deflection, and one forced fumble.
The 6-foot-5, and 240-pound edge rusher talks with Hurricanes' coaches everyday, trying to lure him into Coral Gables: "What stands out with Miami is the relationship we have," he added. "We talk every day and it’s not just about football. We also talk about life. They text with my parents daily, which is really cool. Coach Cristobal has said I’m his number one guy and he’s been showing me a lot of love. And playing in paradise is not a bad thing. I mean, it’s Miami."
