What a fun night for Hurricanes fans. After a somewhat sloppy first 10 minutes, Miami caught fire from the field, highlighted by five Hurricanes finishing in double figures.

Leading the charge was senior center Malik Reneau, who poured in 22 points. Veteran Tru Washington added 17 points, while freshman forward Shelton Henderson also scored 17. Tre Donaldson contributed 14 points, and Timotej Malovec chipped in 12 points.

The Miami men’s basketball team capped off its three-game homestand with a 102-61 victory over Stetson on Monday inside the Watsco Center.

The 102-point outburst marks the first time the Hurricanes have scored 100-or-more points in back-to-back games since February 1989 when Miami hit triple digits in three-consecutive contests.

Stetson (1-2) held an early advantage, leading for the first 11 minutes before Miami (3-0) went on a 15-0 run to take a 30-20 lead. Malik Reneau led the charge as he went on an 8-0 run by himself with a layup, dunk, free throw and the go-ahead 3-pointer. Tru Washington doubled the lead with a three before Shelton Henderson and Tre Donaldson hit back-to-back layups to cap off the rally.

After the Hatters trimmed the lead down to six with 5:02 remaining, the Hurricanes closed out the half on a 23-10 run to hold a 55-36 lead. Four players scored in double figures in the first 20 minutes as Reneau led the way with 12 followed by Donaldson (11), Henderson (10) and Washington (10).

Miami opened the second half on 12-2 run to take a 67-38 lead, shooting 3-for-4 from the floor and 6-of-7 from the charity stripe. With the Hurricanes leading by 25 with 15:30 left, Miami went on another run, 10-0, to take a 35-point lead.

Reneau led all scorers with 22 points, marking the first time in his four-year career he has scored 20-or-more points in three-straight games. Henderson and Washington each had season highs with 15 points. Donaldson registered his second-career double-double as he tallied 17 points and a career-high 10 assists.

Miami dominated in the paint, outscoring the Hatters, 56-20, dished out 28 assists, one shy of the school record and outrebounded the Hatters, 45-31.

Miami hits the road for the first time this season as it travels to Jacksonville, Florida, to take on 10th-ranked Florida on Sunday at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena. The game tips off at 8:30 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN.

The next game will be a tough test... the inside game will be very tough to get off against Florida because of their size.... we will have to shoot lights out from outside and hit our free throws.

Once Miami gets bypassed by the big two in the next realignment, Stetson will become our big rival……
In the Rick Barry days when UM was an Independent, we played Stetson twice a year, home and away, iirc. Same with U of Tampa, and maybe Rollins.
