As expected, playing New York Tech was worse than taking the weekend off. Our RPI went from the .6120 range down to .6050. That puts us at #4 , right behind Florida State. UCLA sits at #2 after taking two of three from Arizona State. Dallas Baptist has a nearly insurmountable lead at #1 . We are mere percentage points ahead of LSU and TCU. Like I said last week, playing NYT was dumb, just dumb.

Louisville is a national seed as of right now. The thing that could save us is that the committee leans on conference standings, and we have a two game lead over FSU. We need to hold on to that lead and then beat them in the ACCT if we want a shot at a second NS for the ACC. Texas A&M really shot themselves in the foot this weekend, so that may open a door for us.

Here's what would make sense: National Seed Florida paired with host Florida State, and National Seed Miami paired with host FAU.

If the ACCT started today, we would be in the same bracket as #3 Florida State, #6 Clemson, and the winner of #7 North Carolina vs #1 0 Virginia.

Not so sure FAU hosts after getting swept by Rice. Could see Miami going to Gainesville again for Supers. FSU will likely get paired with Charleston if they get a host, which as of now they are right in the mix. Hopefully UF doesn't get a top 8 so they can go to Tallahassee (yeah right like the committee would do that to precious Mike Martin).

Queen, as of now are we that 17 inning game from being on the outside looking in and opposed to being in? Is it impossible for the ACC to send 3?

Yes, we are a hole in the fence away from being a stone-cold lock for a national seed.

The ACC could certainly get three national seeds. We would need Texas A&M and either UF or Vandy to tail off.

Isn't FAU also 3rd in their conference rankings right now? Don't care if RPI is still 12, not gonna host if that's the case. Also that sweep of Rice.

If we take care care of business and win the ACCT, we will get a national seed.

With our strong RPI and SOS and when the seeds are determined, just getting through our side of the bracket would be enough. Just need to enter number 2 and finish number 2, as far as the ACCT goes.

Yup, our fate will be determined before the championship game starts on Sunday. If we're in it, we're a NS.

For as much arguing as we've done on this board, I'm finding myself agreeing with you quite a bit as far as the baseball team goes. Maybe we've got some common ground after all.

The keys are 2 things for a NS really:

1) Sweep FAU & GT.
2) Avoid "bad" losses to either Clemson/UNC/UVA in the ACC Tourney (the reason "bad" is in parentheses is because UNC/UVA have RPI's of 22/31 respectively).

If we can do 1 and 2 above, then a W over F$U in the ACC Tourney would be somewhat optional, especially if we went 2-1 in pool play and F$U ended up 1-2, and we still made it out of our pool to the Final.

Don't understand the criticism about playing NYT. Every team schedules cupcakes and we have an excellent SOS. Scheduling NYT will not be the reason we don't get a NS. It will be because we couldn't take a series from UF, Ville, or FSU.

Because it wasn't necessary, especially in May when teams are fighting for RPI position. It also decimated our non-conference SOS, which was respectable before Friday's game. This kind of thing doesn't affect you in February. Allowing yourself to lose .007 when everyone is watching just isn't smart.

We were a rock solid #2 in the RPI. Every #2 has been a national seed. Every single one.

Back up to a solid #3 in RPI. Closer to 2 now than 4. We take care of business this weekend and we should jump UCLA for the #2 spot as they play #74 Oregon and #109 Arizona their last two series.

Yep, and when I went to bed, Fullerton was beating UCLA. I was disappointed to see that the Bruins came back and won.

Say what you will, but Miami doesn't deserve a national seed If they don't make the ACCCG, IMO. Not winning any of the three biggest series this year(UF, L'ville, FSU) is a strike against, IMO.
