4star dt from Louisiana highly interested in miami

Depends who next head coach is...

If we hire Chud and bring back Mike Barrow, Kevin Patrick and add DJ Elliot as DC.....we will start landing kids like this.

Kid is saying Miami is his dream school and will make decision after he visits here, that usually leads to a flip

I just don't feel good about our chances. My guy says he's not coming but I would love to be wrong on this one.

Good thing is we have everything to gain, even if he sticks with LSU after his visit there's some level of comfort with Miami and if anything goes wrong with LSU we should be right there

In the last 25 years what highly recruited defensive tackle(4 star or above) have we gotten from the south, who didn't play high school football in south florida?? Off the top of my head, i can only think of 3. Adrian Wilson, Kendrick Norton, and Patrick Riley, and warren sapp doesn't count, cuz he was a tight end.

Some recruiting services Had DT Curtis Porter ranked as a 4* from north Carolina. 2011 DT Jalen Grimble from Nevada. 2001 DT Orien Harris from Delaware. 1998 DT Matt Walters was from Melbourne, FL (not technically south Florida). Some recruiting services had 2012 DT Jacoby Briscoe from New Orleans rated a 4* because he put on a clinic in the state title game his senior year.

So over the years Miami has landed some very good dline OOS recruits. But based on our current defensive philosphy that will be extremely hard to do if Miami wants to recruit fast athletic types for system designed to utilize big strong players that are essential role playing blockers for the rest of the defense.

Also keep in mind Kendrick Norton fell to miami by default not for lake of better options, Miami was the ONLY school that would let him play defense EVERYONE else wanted him as a Guard and that is where his 4* ranking came from.

Go Canes

But the better question is why is Miami wasting their time with this kid and all but conceding the recruitment 2016 NT Benjamin Frazier from Buford, GA. The reason I mentioning this is because everyone has been touting the play of Kendrick Norton thus far in camp (including myself). Well the staff needs to consider this in the 2014 season Norton's high school (Trinity Christian) played Frazier's high school (Buford) and as a junior Frazier literally manhandled norton for 4 quarters when ever they were matched up. Frazier last year had Miami in his Top two schools with UM in the lead, but then you fast forward to now and this kid is talking USC(w), Tenn, etc. Thing is if Miami just kept the pressure on this kid he will fall to Miami by default also because he is an ideal 2-gapping NT and all the other schools predicate their defense on speed were as he has short area quickness and other world type strength.

Go canes

Damione Lewis, #1 DT in the country. Orien Harris out of Delaware, #2 DT in the country. The DT from Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas from a few years ago was a massive 5-star flop. I'm fuzzy on the 90s, but I'm sure if I looked at the rosters I'd find a few more there - Dwayne Johnson may have been highly rated out of NJ, but I don't know his ranking...

Santonio Thomas was out of Glades Central the same year Wilfork came in. He was a good one, but I thought he might end up being even better...

Dwayne Hendricks out of NJ was recruited as a DT, I believe, but I don't think he ever player here...

We got the #1 DT in the country out of NJ one of the years in the early 2000s, but he didn't qualify...Nate Robinson may have been his name...

Robinson went to Rutgers and didn't have a good career, IIRC.
