Canada has the best player in the world...again...and that player sniped the USA in overtime. That has been the difference in Golden Goal situations. What do you think about the current performance of the teams? Do you see an interesting evolution on the Canadian side or is it just a fluke for the United States?
Trochek leads the NHL in face off % and he has a chemistry with JT Miller from when they played together when they were younger. I get having him.Drury was the USA GM through 2021 and served as the AGM for this tourney - he filled the bottom 6 with his crap-*** Rangers guys like Kreider and Trocheck while more talented players stayed home (such as Tage Thompson). The US has far better goaltending than Canada, so if they can fix the roster construction, they have a legit shot at olympic gold
Some of these GMs overthink things in these national tournaments - they get into the mindset that they have to get the "best 3rd/4th liners" to play on the 3rd/4th lines, so you get these less-talented "grit" players instead of rolling out wave after wave of 1st/2nd line quality guys. Same thing happened to Canada in the World Juniors this year, they left a handful of super talented kids at home in order to bring the best "grinders" for the "grinder" lines and they got smoked.Trochek leads the NHL in face off % and he has a chemistry with JT Miller from when they played together when they were younger. Kreider is the one that I don't understand. And he literally got hurt in the last game.
Tage hasn't played big games in the NHL but he can score and is a big body out there.
Quinn Hughes also didn't play this tourney and he's arguably the best defensemen in the NHLCanada has the best player in the world...again...and that player sniped the USA in overtime. That has been the difference in Golden Goal situations.
Not much of an evolution from a decade ago.
United States played most of that game without Matt Tkachuk and without Charlie McAvoy.
The last time McDavid saw McAvoy, McAvoy put him into the third row after he scored and McDavid wasn't heard from again. Chucky likes ******* with him when they play. McDavid probably doesn't score in OT like that if those two are playing.
i think by the Olympics, our team will be pretty clear. It kind of is now, just take out Kreider, Miller, Trochek and maybe Larkin. Some of these GMs overthink things in these national tournaments - they get into the mindset that they have to get the "best 3rd/4th liners" to play on the 3rd/4th lines, so you get these less-talented "grit" players instead of rolling out wave after wave of 1st/2nd line quality guys. 100% agree. And they should actually play Kyle Connor this timei think by the Olympics, our team will be pretty clear. It kind of is now, just take out Kreider, Miller, Trochek and maybe Larkin.
Tage, Jason Robertson, Caulfield are the next ones that should get a shot.
The top 2 lines should've been100% agree. And they should actually play Kyle Connor this time
