3rd Down Conversion Rate

This is the Nix offense. WR screens on 1st down, making an automatice 2nd and 10. Then a dive up the middle for -2 to +2 yards, then 3rd and 8 or 12, and a slow developing pass short of the chains, then punt.

Brutha, Smoke. I tried everything in my power to forget the Nix experiment. But, I truly believe his shltty screen game is better than Coley's. Perhaps it was that Texas A&M game that was his best work. I just don't know WTF Coley is doing....But we **** well knew what the knights that say Nix was doin, as horrible as that was.
Right -- I said something similar in another thread. I absolutely hated Nix. I thought it was a stupid, lazy hire before he ever called a game and he proved me right. However, I at least remember a couple of games where I gave him some credit for showing some creativity. That has yet to happen with Coley. Each game seems worse than the last one. Yes, he's a better recruiter than Nix but I really don't know if he is any better as a gameday coach.

What kind of bull**** explanation.....

For us, we talk in terms of money downs, third and fourth downs, so sometimes how we play third down is impacted by whether or not we believe we should go for it on fourth down. Having said that, the ones were 3-for-6 in money downs in the first half and the twos were 1-for-4. Obviously, we’ve got to do a better job overall on third down, but a lot of times, third down is tied into fourth down and we would like to have the number higher than 50 percent, 50 percent is not awful and the twos were 25 percent. We’ve definitely got to improve, but I think it can get distorted if we let it. It’s important we stay with what we’re trying to do and improve the things that we need to do in terms of throwing and catching and play selection.”

Is that for real? Did he really ******* say that? I've shot right past the anger stage and now I'm at the lol stage. I just laugh at this ****. Probably a self preservation mechanism. Othewise sooner or later I'd stroke out reading quotes like that.

The spin is unreal. It's akin to saying "well, we were 100% on 3rd and 5 conversions, so we're doing a lot of good things out there."

You know what this quote is? It's a microcosm for all of Al's coaching. Think about the defense and how they aren't playing by instinct. Instead they look robotic, they're thinking instead of reacting. Look at that quote, now imagine Al coaching up the defense. If this is how he thinks about and explains 3rd down conversion, imagine him explaining coverages to the defense. Al's got these kids heads spinning.

He's missing his calling. He'd make far more in politics and once you're done in office, you get a cush job on Wall Street, with a pharmaceutical company, or one of the insurance giants. Stand in front of people, talk bull****, and follow through on none of it.
