3 second BS Spike rule

USC spiked ball with 12 seconds on clock before half. Next play started at 10 seconds…just saying

I agree, I seen the same chit in the USF v UCF game, as well. ****, I think only one sec came off the clock w/ 12 secs left.

But here’s the article on the rule. It feels ambiguous & left to interpretation.

“To establish three seconds as the minimum amount of time required to be on the game clock in order to spike the ball to stop the clock. If one or two seconds remain on the clock, there is only time for the offense to run one more play.
Article 1: A team is not permitted to conserve time inside of one minute of either half by committing any of the following acts: (a) a foul by either team that prevents the snap (i.e., false start, encroachment, etc.) (b) intentional grounding; (c) an illegal forward pass thrown from beyond the line of scrimmage; (d) throwing a backward pass out of bounds; (e) spiking or throwing the ball in the field of play after a down has ended, except after a touchdown; or (f) any other intentional foul that causes the clock to stop.”

This came about in 2013.

The referees pulled that one out of their collective @$$es. Only against the Canes do you see that bullshyte called.

I mean...you're raising a relevant mathematical point...but the rule is the rule. I think there are also "minimum time on the clock" rules in basketball related to in-bounds plays with under one second on the clock.

Personally, I am more concerned by the impression that our coaches and players may not be aware of all of the rules, particularly when we see "clock management" mistakes.

We should have game planned better...
Our D trying to keep a team from scoring from the 6 inch line with 4 downs was sheer stupidity.. ..
We wasted plenty of time and timeouts... crying about an additional 1 sec on the clock is ridiculous.

No it isn't. However, calling time outs while simultaneously trying to stop them is stupidity.
