Are the 2024 'Canes similar to the 2000 Canes?

Yes..
The 2000 Canes had Ed Reed, Dan Morgan, Reggie Wayne, Santana Moss, Ken Dorsey etc etc....a couple HOFers

In the 2000 pre season, we all knew the team had talent, but we werent sure just how much talent that 2000 squad had.

The 2024 team has an influx of transfer portal talent and homegrown talent that tells us we are talented, but we just dont how talented they are. We cant say this squad has any future HOFers, but hopefully this squad beats UFake and not suffer the 2000 loss to Washington.....Washington was a much better team than the 2024 UFakes.

Fair pre season comparison???

The 2024 Canes are better than the 2000 Canes.

Especially on Defense & especially at CB & Safety.

Im just talking about pre season expectations for both teams as a comparison....thats it

In the summer of 2000, no one could have fully grasped all the talent on that 2000 team. In August of 2000, if you said there will be XX amount of 1st rd draft picks, pro bowlers HOFers from that team, you'd been laughed out of the room.

Im not saying the 2024 team is as talented, but if you drew comparisons from each preseason they could be similar.

The 1999 team started out 2-3, losing two close games to ECU & PSU by 4 points, before losing a highly anticipated game against FSU at Doak.

After we lost to the eventual Nat’l Champions, we ended the season 7-1, w/ the lone defeat coming to #2 VA Tech. B/c of our strong finish, we began the 2000 season as a Top 5 team.

That is literally not remotely the same as to this 2024 team or how the 2023 season ended.

That Washington team in 2000 would beat the brakes off of 2024 UF.....and the 2000 UM team would pummel 2024 UM (Especially towards the end of the yr.)

Did the 2000 Canes really start off in the top 5?
Had to Wikipedia it, yeah they started no. 5

I can’t do it

Ask Butch Davis, in August 2000 what he had built?
I know, you were asking for a friend..

Oh gosh, I hate these things...

Based on talent and ability it's extremely likely 2000 UM wins (99%).

If you feature in scheme, it'll get more difficult, because we were antiquated on offense and defense compared to now.

If you feature in ruleset, depending on whether 2000s rules or 2024 rules are applied, I don't see 2000 UM keeping up with their main strength (defense) being softened up. The other way around, 2024 stands no chance whatsoever.

This is why these questions don't bring any value to anything, two completely different generations of football.

However, here's a reminder for anyone:

The running backs had All-Pros as backups, the Wide Receivers had one Hall of Famer, one All-Pro-player starting and one Hall of Famer as a backup, the eventual starting TE was a Pro Bowl player, the secondary featured three high draft picks at CB and a S who is considered among the all-time-greatest to ever play the position and the LBs consisted of a Pro Bowler starting and setting a Super Bowl record for tackles that still stands today, and two LBers backing him up that turned to be Pro Bowlers themselves.

You'd have a very hard time finding that collection of talent in a single roster in the entire history of college football. People gush about Bamas and Georgia talent level - we were Bama and Georgia talent-wise back then.

We have gotten so far away from being great that some of our fans don’t know what it looks like anymore.

If it was another fanbase making these comparisons to our great teams or great players like our fans do we would take it as disrespect

I'll take the 2024 DE's since McDougle and Andrew Williams weren't there yet in 2000.. that's about the only position group

Dudes....I am not talking about the teams playing each other.....I never said that...of course 2000 would win.

Just lock/end the thread

I am now dumber

The 2000 team should have gone to the National Championship game vs Oklahoma. They beat FSU head up and the stupid computers gave it to them somehow. They went on to beat the Gators literally in the Sugar Bowl. Beat them in the New Orleans streets and then in the game.
