1999 Week 1 vs Ohio Taint @Giants Stadium

The skill players on that '99 team could've literally started in the NFL that year. The PSU game was the toughest loss for me because you knew you had to wait another year to be back. That team I thought could've gone all the way after the OSU game. But I had no idea how good VT was though.

this game was Kenny Kelly's career in a nutshell-- Santana Moss bailing him out with great plays

As for Davenport, Coach Soldinger believed that if he doesn't get hurt this game, Miami goes undefeated that year. He made a great case to me, stating that his ability to finish games with power would've made a huge difference late in games.

I was at this game at the Meadowlands, Najeh was looking like a young Marcus Dupree before that injury

6'1 240lbs with 4.38 speed....People forget how Bad *** Dav was....Go watch his HS Highlights...

I just thought about it, but if the refs give James Jackson the first down, we would've been in the top 5 for the first time since 1994 I think. The Santana Moss TD and JJ's TD really had the crowd going. This is when the OB still rocked.

I loved this game! My only Miami game I've been to. I travelled from Michigan to see this game and it was worth it. Santana moss and that catch before halftime the way he cut back was a thing of beauty. Najeh davenport looked like a future star before he got hurt. I knew that day that we were on our way back it just took another year since Kelly couldn't stay consistent. Every other spot was good enough to be a top 10 team. They just needed a consistent quarterback

I was too. He was a beast that game.13 carries for 81 yards if I remember before he got hurt. I don't think we would've went undefeated. Kelly was way too inconsistent but maybe we we only lose 1-2 games instead of 4

Yeah, Im with you. Najeh would've made a huge impact, but we probably still lose to FSU and Vatech, the two teams that played for all the marbles

On the flipside, I think with Davenport UM closes out Penn St and East Carolina...

Kelly was just horrible in a prostyle offense. Even with moss,Wayne, franks,Jackson,Portis, and fulcher. He would've been better in a spread offense...maybe haha.

after that miracle comeback vs BC (down 28-0 late into the 3rd quarter) when Miami went shotgun spread, no-huddle for the most part, the decision should've been made to make that the base offense for Kelly. Instead, we stick him in the Coker-T

Same thing with Berlin after the Florida comeback in 2003

But hey, UM did go up-tempo spread by 2020!!

I thought for the time comer was a good coordinator. Maybe a little too conservative. Kelly was a bad fit for his offense. They should've went with a more shotgun oriented offense and simplified Kelly's reads. Cokers offense was great in 2000 and imo was the best offense we had in that era. Better than 2001-2002. I think Dorsey's best year was 2000. Probably helped to have two great Wrs a great te and fb.
