Zone defenses work, but South Florida kids are frankly too dumb and unmotivated to learn a new way of playing defense.

We should just hire someone who will run a high school system as close as possible to what these Florida kids already know. Kind of like we did for the offense.

Because if you're asking these kids to learn anything new as far as scheme goes, you're asking too much. The key to winning with South Florida kids is to remove as much thinking as possible from the equation and let them just play fast and downhill.

If you're asking these kids to put in the time to learn or understand anything, especially something complicated, you're setting yourself up for failure IMO.

This is Diaz's defense. If they could do better gameplanning and gameday coaching they would, but they can't.

Manny needs someone new and good to come in and call his own **** defense.

He inherited players that were underperforming in a scheme that didn't fit them. That's why we improved so much from 2015 to 2016. He made playing d fun for the players and they played much better.

Yeah teams can get figure the defense out but that's not what happened. Baker took over and the defense schematically has been a more bend but don't break style. More zone less man. More delayed blitzes from 10 yds away. The des didn't punch inside as much like they have the last two years. This defense is not the same schematically. We need better cbs and better lbs and manny's at fault for that. Some of it under right and some as coach

It's his defense but baker calls it way different. The only game I remember us playing as much zone with many was against clemson in the ACC championship. There can be calls in the playbook but baker uses zone with less aggression than manny did

Yeah that was that game. I see the same over blitzing, blitzing from 2 miles away, predictable blitzing, poorly timed blitzing, being out schemed every **** game I saw last year and the year before, and Manny, the HC and architect of this d is standing his dumb *** right there watching. I just think manys better at calling plays than baker is. Baker calls more passive soft zone,blitzes from 10 yds away and pinches the des more. Many played zone but not as much. Many blitzed his safeties closer to the los like when red wine did against fsu in 2018. The defense under baker is being called much different than when many was dc. Our cbs and lbs were better than they are now too but you can't tell me that the defensive plays totally changed from the 1st quarter to the rest of the game. First quarter looked like bakers calls after that it looked like what many would call

They had a lot to do with it, especially Quan. IMO any defense that has a safety leading the team in tackles is a huge red flag and schematically flawed. Quan was just such a good tackler and instinctive he made it work and cleaned up so many broken plays. He’s easily the most under appreciated player we’ve had in the last 15 years.

Multiple times on the first few drives there were multiple players from OSU pointing out the blitz from Canes. They knew exactly what was coming. Wouldn’t be surprised if Diaz started calling plays when King went down

We suck at blitzing. Its a skill and we have absolutely nobody any good at it. Couch was decent for a few games and has reverted to being a dumpster fire at it.

Manny was above average. When he came, we would have taken a DC that blitzed every down versus what we had.

Then he becomes CEO, like Shannon and Golden before him, way below what we needed with zero experience, and he hires a DC protege?

Look, I hate to always bring it back to the Saban types, but really...what would he do if Alabama performed like what we did against UNC? I doubt he would have a team able to walk for the Okie State game.

Manny better get this CEO thing quick...hire the BEST DC he can afford...even if it means his “scheme” and the DC don’t mesh. Time to be a CEO.

Well the play prior to that the OSU WR was open on an out-route but he dropped the ball right before Couch tapped him. If he catches that ball then we're not even talking about the Smith play.

Then on 4th & 6 the OSU QB had all day to throw, thus the Hail Mary.
4th & 6 we should be pressuring the QB and playing man.

OSU waited for us to show our blitz and then changed their play. I watched Baker stand there and do nothing while his blitz got exploited. That sealed it for me. The guy cannot coach on this level.
