Brown Jr and Walker IV were kind of out of nowhere signings. There was no drama at all. Different situation with VCJ. It's not Willie Williams level, but it's kind of a circus.

This is true. While the plurality of 1 and dones seem to go to Duke, Kentucky or Kansas (assuming this...haven't run the numbers), a good number of them also choose lesser programs where they will be more likely to stand out (or they get paid, or their dads get jobs etc.) (Porter, Beasley, Simmons).

Agree that all potential one and dones are not alike. Carey is not one that needs to go to college to have his skills evaluated. He should be in the NBA next year, but he's not allowed.

Not playing at all next year would still put him in the NBA. One and done is a charade.

Of course. But the NBA wants to use the NCAA as a free developmental league, the NBA union wants to protect jobs, and the NCAA is making a fortune off of it. One done is very lucrative for everybody but the NBA ready kids who are stuck in college for a semester.

I remember listening to an interview with Bobby Knight, and he tore into John Wooden for UCLA's recruiting practices in the 60s and 70s. Its been going on forever.

Technically he didn't take Umass or Memphis because both of those final fours were vacated.

I'm talking about final 4 type teams. Coach L wins 20 games every year at UM too, but nobody would say we're elite.

Re Cal, if memory serves, he had the one great season at UMass pre 1 and done. Wasn't that final 4 wiped out due to violations?

If they got rid of one and done, Coach K would go back to developing kids. Cal would have a problem because he built his career on one and dones.
