While it's true that the program's slide had already begun before the move to HRS, the school is now in a great spot to continue maintaining this facade of being interested in competing for titles. UM's top priority is for families to enjoy themselves on gameday, and that makes fine business...

Cool story, Hansel. I also grew up going to O's spring training and Marlins games there. Yankees at FTL Stadium too. Love having an MLB team here but would consider giving it up to have those venues back.

So you agree with me then that the fan experience is prioritized ahead of winning, and that there's no reason for the university to deviate from this model of going 7-5 every year with butts in the seats because people now have a place to party. Moving to HRS changed the Miami fan's M.O. in a...

Wait do you really not agree that the OB held significant importance in a city devoid of historic landmarks? The stadium wasn't just metal and bolts, it was the one place where a Miamian could be surrounded by others who shared pride in hailing from here. What city are you from?

Joining the ACC and moving to HRS has ensured that we'll go 7-5 in perpetuity, but the school knows it can count on us to renew season tix so we can one-up each other in the parking lot with all new tailgating gear and enjoy the awesome beer selection inside the stadium while we socialize and...

When they tore that place down there's no question that a portion of the city and team's soul remained in the rubble. That dump was an important landmark that elicited fierce civic pride which pretty much doesn't exist otherwise in any form in such a transient community.

There's some truth to this but it doesn't change what's transpired at UM since 2007. We left the OB in program-killing fashion and haven't been terribly relevant since, but the people keep coming back because they can get fired-up on IPA at Hard Rock with their good-time buddies and leave the...

You really don't see the parallels between the Canes and Dolphins since 2008? The Dolphins went from a football team to a three-ring circus when Stephen Ross bought the team in 2008. They literally rolled out the red carpet for celebrity minority owners, built a nightclub in the WEZ, and went...

The one time we managed to beat ECU back in 1989 there were 40k fans at the OB a week after losing to FSU, and it felt/sounded like there was 80k.

HRS is great but the place has so many frills that it doesn't always feel quite like a college football venue, and it needs to be packed with liquored-up Kendall chicos at night for it to feel anything like the OB. The university followed the Dolphins blueprint of prioritizing the fan experience...
