This is even worse when you look at the offensive rankings of the teams they played. Toledo finished 58th in F+ defense. The offenses they played: Ohio: 54 Kent St: 66 Ball State: 119 Bowling Green: 97 Buffalo: 98 Central Michigan: 105 E. Michigan: 70 N. Ill.: 86 W. M.: 128 Long Island...

These are the 2022 F+ Defensive rankings for their opponents: Ohio: 100 Kent St: 113 Ball State: 89 Bowling Green: 117 Buffalo: 81 Central Michigan: 98 E. Michigan: 110 N. Ill.: 127 W. M.: 73 Their OOC: Something called Long Island University (there aren’t even analytic rankings for...

Can you find me an advanced analytic ranking that likes his offenses?

Not really. PFF is more scout driven. PFF is stuff like, “% of throws that are ‘big time’ throws,” “throws within the framework of the offense” “INT worthy throws” and stuff like that. F+ is just box score stats. Like total offense. But advanced ones instead. It’s a combination of the two...

Yes, I already knew what F+ would say about Candle’s 2018 offense, so that’s why I went with it. Orrrrrrrr, I just always use F+ and put in every year and just took the numbers as they came.

    You’re just using a different stat I don’t find particularly useful. According to F+: 2022 offense was 80th. 2021 was 76. 2020 was 39 19 was 91 18 was 39 17 was 37 16 was 13 His best offense the last 5 years should only be acceptable when he’s breaking in a Fr QB here. And there’s 3...

But he basically has failed at that level. Candle takes the top recruiting class in the MAC every year and produces average to horrible offenses every year with them. The best bet is he would do that at Miami as well. There’s no real reason to believe he’s going to come here and be some...

I‘d probably rather have Gattis. Gattis ‘19 offense was Top 25. And his ‘21 offense was Top 10. So there’s at least some recent success there. Candle is just too far removed from having a successful offense. And you can’t fire him anytime soon when he comes here and sucks. At this point...

But when is the last time he did that to any degree of success? He has basically become this heavy run, bunch formation, slog along offense the last 5 to 6 years, to moderate to no offensive success. And that’s the sample size that Mario has looked at.

Assuming all of that is true. And 5 years is a lifetime in college football. Do you really think it’s 2016 Candle that Mario has watched and is interested in?

Well thank god Mario has a strong track record of identifying QB talent. So that should balance out Candle’s lack of ability to do so.

I disagree. Lots of people thought Frost should have been fired after 2021. And nobody would have blamed Nebraska if they did. The fact that Alberts didn’t, speaks to the fact that he probably thought Frost was close to turning it around. Alberts had probably seen the analytic numbers...

I would be happy with the Frost hire. Yeah, Nebraska wasn’t great. But his F+ Offensive Rankings: ‘21: 30 ‘20: 54 ‘19: 53 ‘18: 42 ‘17: 63 ‘16: 38 It’s not horrible. It was a roster that needed a rebuild. By the time he got 3 recruiting classes making up the Two Deep, they were a...

Every year there a bunch of G5 teams in the F+ Top 25 offensive rankings. Including MAC teams some years. But Toledo hasn’t come close to being one of those G5 teams since 2016. The talent isn’t an excuse when you have more of it than anybody in your conference.

The longer it draws out, the more it becomes Mario making offense far more difficult than it needs to be.

Turner wasted generational talent as S.D. And he was already sh*t HC by that point.
