I didn't see this beatdown coming but .... BYU had a first half against the Zags back in the regular season that made a lot of viewers (including myself) wonder about their perimeter defense. Zags were all about outscoring opponents. Vital, the wide body 6'5, 250 post player, destroyed Timme at...

I hear what you are saying about our location. And in these times, I suspect you are correct that the weather and beaches and campus may not have much "draw" with recruits. A quick personal anecdote. I transferred, as just another student, to UM in 1964; graduated in 1966. "Sun Tan U" -- the...

I'm still blown away by that full-court bounce pass after a blocked shot that the Zags pulled off. A blur ...

Well ... A great replacement as HC and a half dozen players who we don't have right now. That might get us to the Baylor/Houston level.

Juzang carried them last night. To have any chance, Jaquez needs to join him with the kind of game he had vs Mich State in the First Four play-in game. I give them a 20% shot vs the Zags, higher than I give either Baylor or Houston.

Alabama shoots 11-25 from the FT line in an overtime game. That's gonna keep Oats up many nights!

As stilted as our offense has become, I truly believe Coach L is the better offensive game strategist (those wins over the years against the ACC blue bloods - with an inferior team usually - didn't happen by luck) .

Leonard Hamilton can recruit and teach pretty good defense. As for offensive strategy, he rolls the ball on court and tells his players, "Just play like you do down at your local playground." No set plays, little structure, a ton of one-on-one play. Against a disciplined team with a plan, you...

Their switching defense was nothing but terrific today. They totally shut down that Loyola high post game that killed Illinois. Ethan Thompson is another "stealth" star like Klay Thompson was at Wazzou. Nobody in the East ever sees those teams from the Pacific Northwest.

More than just the zone. On a given day, they've got two or three good shooters. In every game, they've got pure shooter Buddy. As for the zone, WVU had zero problems feeding the post. It's just that their bricklayer of a Center couldn't turn and shoot successfully from the FT stripe if he were...

Curbelo had a fine game for the Illini. 9 pts on 4-5 shooting, with 7 assists. Consensus All American Ayo Dosunmu hurt his draft stock. Played 38 minutes, scoring 6 pts with only 2 rebounds. Add 6 TOs to those totals for a nightmare performance.

I don't think Illinois recruited any of Loyola's players (on the 2018 team that beat us, or now). Not seen as Big10 caliber talent. Who got the last laugh?

What a clinic Loyola put on. That motion offense off a high post, with the high post then cutting down low for a return pass is a thing of beauty. Leads to about three good options to score. Illinois never did figure out a way to stop it.

The Krutwig kid played against us when we got upset by Loyola back in 2018. He had 11 and 4 in that game as a freshman starter.

Tough to lose it on a foul called in a scrum underneath as the game clock was expiring. A lot of refs wouldn't have done that, deserved or not.

When you see these mid-major players that make you think, "Wow, he could have been a multi-year starter for us, easily," it's hard to reconcile not being able to fill out an ACC roster for several years now here at UM. I'm sure other P5 fans feel the same for their schools but ...

VT lost the game vs UF but I was struck again by the great job Mike Young has done there. He's got a team full of xfers from places like the U of Delaware, Wofford, etc. who are mixed in with a few Preps/JuCos and a bunch of mainly nondescript HS recruits. In other words, unheralded players...

The big kid from Daytona Beach - Colin Castleton - had a great game for UF today. A 6'10 transfer from the Univ of Michigan, he has a great feel for the game, is a nice interior passer, rebounds, blocks shots and plays very hard nosed defense. His offense is still a bit of a work in progress...
