Good bloodlines. His Dad, Mark, starred on mid-80s Duke powerhouses that also featured David Henderson, Johnny Dawkins, Tommy Amaker, Billy King and Jay Bilas.

Actually, for raw big men, that jump often comes between Year 2 and 3. If L can bring in a one year Grad Transfer big man for the upcoming season, I could see Nwoko becoming a force over time.

Guess that's supposed to come via the Portal. We've heard that before though.

    2024 Recruiting

He is QUICK and already has the Jack McLinton "step back" move to get him more space to get his shot off. Agree about the wasted motion and long release. Optimally, I'd like to see him release the ball from a higher point than he does now. He is, though, 6'4 or so and that helps too.

    2024 Recruiting

Finally got around to watching some video with Bethea's perimeter shot. My critique is he appears to hold the ball at his waist when he starts to rise from the floor and sorta releases the ball from maybe face-high. If I'm right, he's likely to eat some leather with that form. When I was a...

For a guy with a 6 inch vertical. ;) Don't get me wrong, I liked Sam and no question he was a contributor throughout his time here, especially his last couple seasons.

    2024 Recruiting

I dunno. Waardenberg was, despite his height and at his core, a perimeter player. He loved to bomb away with the three point shots, which he was good at making. By the end of his time here, he got more physical but that's all relative. I think the UConn combo of Sanogo and Clingan would've...

    2024 Recruiting

Yep. And UConn's Ike Sanogo who was their beast in the middle went from 6'9 to 6'7. It's the big 7 foot plus "aircraft carriers" that there's a real debate on true value -- the Edey's and ****inson's. The ones the NBA no longer seems to value.

Didn't Omier turn out to be like 6'6-6'7 when the NBA measured him?

All good to hear. I'll take any Curry comparison. Would you say Nijel Pack has a "quick release?" I see more of a "step back" move, when he's tightly guarded, that frees him up. Not as much as Jack McLinton had but along those lines. Glad JB's shot didn't look "wonky ***" to you -- that's how...

Nope. I'll go find it. What did you see? Anything out of the ordinary with his mechanics?

    2024 Recruiting

Been reading a few other Message Boards I follow and saw a comment about Bethea being impressive but having a cringe-worthy looking shot. My mind immediately went to 4 star/5 star disaster Earl Timberlake. Anyone seen film on Bethea's shot, or even better, seen him in person?

    2024 Recruiting

All true. I guess any pessimism I have (not much) is really only based on the excellence of this recruit. Not your normal catch which means the jilted schools are not likely to just throw up their hands and give up. And you're right about basketball not being the recruiting freakshow football...

Thanks. That's when the real celebration should break out. He's basically still fair game until then.

Committed. Is there still an actual signing period? If so, when?

    2024 Recruiting

Yep. Zay, in his first major stretches of PT under Coach L, played out of control. Poor shot selection, etc. But Coach L was able to see the upside that he flashed and stuck with him. Other coaches might well have nailed him to the bench. In the end, L's faith in Zay paid off for both of them in...

    2024 Recruiting

Score from "everywhere on the court" at this point? I don't think so. A 17% shooter from beyond the arc. But, that's more than OK. We always have three point shooters. If he's the all-round player he's touted to be, he'll fit in very nicely -- defending, rebounding, slashing to the hoop, etc...

    2024 Recruiting

Another recruit, like Swartz, who really came on in the last 6 months in the eyes of talent evaluators. Indicates to me they both may still have good upside.

    2024 Recruiting

If he is indeed a Miami "lean," the next 3-4 days will be when our competition goes all out to pressure him out of coming here. I don't envy highy-sought after players like Jalil. Between the other recruiters and the parents and kid possibly having two minds ...
