I wrote a year ago that if I could have one question to ask in a sit down with Coach L (where he was under Sodium Pentothal), I would want to know WHY he thinks/has found it is so hard to recruit HS stars to UM (Brown, Scott, and Lonnie excepted).
Austin, are u serious? We've done well recruiting transfers like Larkin, Kadji, McKinney-Jones, Murphy, Grant, Angel R, McLinton, etc. HS recruits (other than the scant few we all are aware of) is a whole other story. Like UM is poison.
At Coach's age/stage of career, it's doubtful he gets another college HC job. That, I'm sure, makes it much harder to leave this job.
Also, if I were AD, I would never pressure L to leave or cut him loose without a well known, program-invigorating replacement having agreed to take the job. None...
I would say exactly the opposite. He's an average recruiter (especially at a "difficult to sell" school like UM) and a pretty good x's and o's coach (has gotten us many wins over much more talented teams).
