Recruiting the State of Florida (A missed opportunity by our coaching staff).

I don't believe that Danny Manning - despite the firing today - would EVER consider being a college Assistant Coach. I guess he might look at a mid-major college HC job but I doubt any of those programs would be all that interested in him at this point. If he wants to stay in the game, I see...

The Florida HS talent is getting better by leaps and bounds but not yet near the level of competition you get in the Catholic Leagues in the urban centers of the Middle Atlantic and Northeast. Certainly, we could and should do better in the state of Florida. And, I think we will!

Maybe they are talking about this year where we will only have one -- Keith Stone. Also, if we didn't successfully recruit them out of HS, I don't see how you can count them. So ... Amp, yes. Zach, no. Stone, no. Had Dewan played as expected, he'd have been another.

15 players maybe but ... how many end up panning out, playing in an ACC-level league? And, if there are 15, where are they going? Doesn't seem to be to UF, FSU or Miami?

Recruiting the State of Florida (A missed opportunity by our coaching staff).

FYI, Last year FSU had 3 Floridians on their 12 man roster (only one of whom played serious minutes) and UF only had 2 of their 12 (one being Keith Stone). Florida HS ball still doesn't compare that well with the more basketball-rich areas in the country. Also, IMG might positively skew the...

Where would this program be if we didn't take Transfers and Graduate Transfers over the years? Pretty horrible to even contemplate.

One of the Herald beat writers ought to ask Coach L directly, bringing up concrete examples like this kid; next presser he holds. I recall with Tim Hardaway, Jr, the word from UM, supposedly, was that they viewed him as a very marginal prospect at best. He was, for sure, a streaky shooter but...

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Lonnie Walker the only One & Done player we've ever recruited? In the 35 years since hoops was resurected at the U? My point: I don't think we have to worry about signing kids who plan to be around for a while.

Only one Floridian on the current roster -- Stone. Nobody recruited out of HS. That could mean any number of things.

I think we need to do better locally, and in the state of Florida as a whole. But ... I also believe the quantity of quality Florida HS recruits is not at a point where you'd want to make it the focus of our HS recruiting. Don't think it qualifies remotely as a HS basketball recruiting "hotbed."...

Maybe they've already told UM/Coach L that they are going to Kentucky, Duke, UNC or whatever "blue blood." So ... offering them could hurt our chances with a recruit who might actually say "yes" to our offer??

Canedude, I take your points but .... what have we ever done (except for maybe that ACC regular season and ACC Tourney championship "double") that competes with those schools' accomplishments? As to the local community and school discussion, it would be nice to see a full house (in person, not...

Yeah, if you just limit it to the "L era." FSU went to the National Championship game in 1972 against UCLA and has pretty much been a perennial NCAAT team under Ham. Donovan, of course, led UF to back-to-back National Championships, not THAT long ago.

Maybe things are changing/have changed for the better but, for decades, -- with a few very notable exceptions -- recruiting HS basketball players from Florida was like recruiting football talent from Maine. You wouldn't want to put much effort into either.
