Agree on those "below the radar" local kids like Johnston. TJ was a good move on UM's part -- a local 7 footer who developed nicely over time. The late Brad Timpf from Taravella was another big man who never panned out. Zach Johnson, we finally did get but maybe should have had him earlier.
Good points. Curbelo's got the penetration and dish, no-look pass, and rim lob down pat -- without being careless or out of control. Rare in a freshman. That's why he's playing major minutes for an Illinois team which is an ascending national power.
Any comparison of Beverly vs Curbelo based on...
I've seen the Curbelo kid play PG in 3-4 games this season for Illinois. The kid can really distribute! Every time I see him he has a half dozen assists, give or take a few. And that is coming off the bench.
We coulda used him big time as a true PG. Only gonna improve over the next couple years.
Olivier Sarr entered the portal with Manning's firing:
"Sarr, a 7-foot France native, will become the top available transfer this spring. He earned third-team All-ACC honors last season after averaging 13.7 points and 9.0 rebounds for the Demon Deacons. Sarr tallied 11 double-doubles, ..."
Cross looks really solidly built. Could have immediate impact at UM if he can effectively use that body to provide some front court scoring and rebounding.
Anyone know how he scored most of his points in prep school?
Timberlake is the cornerstone of this class. I'll feel better when he signs.
I could see the Covid 19 thing playing with the heads of many recruits and their families, from the standpoint of wanting to maybe stay closer to home.
I'd use the two schollys on two bigs who could put Sam and Miller into a reserve role. I know that's pretty much an impossibility at this point but ...
10 man rotation of Lykes, Wong, McGusty, Timberlake, Brooks, Beverly, Waardenburg, Gak, Walker and Miller? Not too shabby.
Honestly, out of those 10, I gotta think someone leaves. Not enough PT. Especially if we add another big.
Unless you play four perimeter guys, you're still gonna want to put two bigs on the floor at the 4 and 5 positions. Miller can only play the 5 (and only at one end of the floor). Can Brooks play the 4? Gak can play there but he's an injury waiting to happen and has shown no ability to be able to...
All good if Earl turns into a four year college player. With one and dones like Lonnie, we got very little (if you wanna be honest); the Spurs or some other pro team will reap the true benefit of his talent. He may have "floated through the air" great here at UM, but he was hardly a knock down...
They've only been one place -- Maryland. They are true frosh. From today's Baltimore Sun.
"Twin brothers Makhi and Makhel Mitchell committed to the Maryland men’s basketball earlier than most — before their junior year at Wilson High in Washington.
The 6-foot-10 power forwards, who were often...
The Mitchell twins (Makhi and Makhel), both 6'10 forwards from DC, are leaving the Maryland Terps. If they were good enough to be recruited by Turgeon, I'd guess they could play in our frontcourt. Think one was averaging 3 ppg and the other 1 ppg. But ... they were playing in a Top 10 team's...
