10th in the ACC is likely a "bubble watch" team at best. Most publications have us as an NIT team. We better make a boatload of threes every game or this could be a tough year.

Picked to finish 10th in the ACC. Last time I think we were picked that low, we finished 7th and got into the NCAAT. At least, that's what I'm recalling. Could be wrong. As others have said, Coach L seems to always do better with less expectations.

Always interesting to see if this version of the Canes can, and will, run. Regardless of who our coach has been since 1985, 95% (or more) of our teams have slowed it down and were content to play offense in a half-court set. Back in the 60s, it was a Paul Westhead type flow with the Canes often...

I've always thought Zach Johnson is the key for us this season. We need him to continue being the scoring threat/shooter he was at FGCU. Did I read in a recent Barry Jackson column that he has some sort of knee issue? Or was I dreaming?

That might be the problem. Can he guard either position in a league like the ACC?

Are you saying you think Sam is a stretch 4? To me, he can't defend that position; so, like it or not, he's gotta play the 3. I base this on the Waardenburg we saw last season; if his body or physical play has significantly changed, that may cast a new light on things.

That was the reason behind my question. Not only leaving but ... the strange timing (after they had completed sitting out the full year required). You'd think a major problem would have surfaced much earlier.
