    that's interesting. i know several people that were moved across divisions/departments into positions that are in lower bands than the jobs they moved from and not a single one of them had reductions in pay or classification. i always asked why because it didn't make sense to be paying $5-10k...

    i didn't even consider them signing new contracts and that would make sense based on what they do. i was thinking from a normal, salaried employee perspective.

    it is. i work for the university. unless they sign a new contract as @Jayleepg23 mentioned (which i didn't even think about and makes sense), their nominal base salary can't be bumped down. it's why a big portion of um's administrative staff that have been shifted around have weird pay...

    if they got a pay increase as a salaried, overtime-exempt employee it can't be taken away.

    they can't have their salary reduced without being terminated first. that's a um hr rule.
