He made it in a 4 team playoff. They would not have been in the national title game last year under the previous system as they ended the regular season at #3. Richt also fielded a top 4 team in his second year.

Kirby was also unranked in his first season and Mark was #22, so if we're going by AP poll ranking average of the first two years Richt would come out ahead. But that wasn't the point. Let's see if they win their bowl game before we start giving Kirby free extra credit.

I don't know if Richt or Smart is better, but they've had about identical records in their first 3 years at Georgia.
