True. That's why I said "for right or wrong". Butch did an amazing job, it just would have been nice to see what Allen could have done with our increasing recruiting abilities, facilities, etc. Two greats.

Yeah, I didn't mean to suggest that it was JJ that did it, just that he seemed to move out of coaching RIIIIIGHT after our greatest success (at that point), and it would have been nice to see him go a bit longer with either Howard or JJ. I met Allen a few times over at the Hecht, and he seemed...

Sadly (and for right or for wrong), Allen got moved over to sports admin/AD's office when JJ was hired. Don't get me wrong, JJ hired some great coaches, but it also would have been fun to see Allen working for JJ for a few years.

Yeah, but UCF was originally Florida Technological University. Only became UCF in 1978 when I was a kid growing up in Orlando. First college football game I ever saw was in 1979 right after the name was changed.

Yes, I believe so. UM was struggling with attendance (attracting good students) and other issues associated with our small size. We did great in the late 40s and 1950s because of the GI Bill (and that revenue was what built our "temporary" buildings like the concrete 3-story apartment...

Disney took a while to cut into Miami Beach proper. The Magic Kingdom opened in 1971. At the time, Disney only had 2 hotels, the Contemporary and the Polynesian. EPCOT opened in 1982. The Grand Floridian opened in the late 1980s and there was a boom of Disney hotels and parks (MGM Studios...

A long time ago. When I was an undergrad (1980s), some of the older alums would talk about it. Could be worse. Here are the names that were under consideration for USF: ---Florida Gulf Coast University ---Florida West Coast University ---University of Southwest Florida ---Tampa Bay University...

People forget, at one time "Miami" was a more well-known geographic name across the United States than "Florida" was. It's like today, everyone knows "Las Vegas", but people sometimes have to stop and think about "Nevada". University of Florida tried to sue UM to stop us from using the name...

Sheeee-it, completely forgot. #11 overall pick. I pulled up a roster, and it spelled his last name as "Hannah". Daaaaayyyyummmm...

Truth. The LSU women were fire. My UM fraternity was supposed to be having a big party with our LSU chapter in their house in Baton Rouge. We got to the house, and when they saw that we had Black and Hispanic brothers, they cancelled the party and made up some BS excuse. Not a joke. Really...

Don't forget Mike Archer, a DB who went on to (assistant) coach at Miami, and then left for LSU when JJ came aboard. Archer was the head coach at LSU during the immortal 1988 game when JJ absolutely DESTROYED Archer's LSU squad in Baton Rouge, and the great TheOriginalCane spent the night in a...

Look, man, I want to be respectful and all, I'm not against you because you're a Bama guy. But cooooome on, now. Yes, at certain times (like when the SEC only played 6 conference games out of 11 regular season games), there were opportunities for good OOC schedules. But to say "it was pretty...
