Yep. I've made the drive several times, but I think they close at 7 pm most nights. A couple of times, after soccer matches, I've just missed out, and then ended up at Gringos Locos or MX Taco. Also, Stasio's is a deli, so they have a bunch of "harder to find" items for making Italian meals.

My Pop Warner team went down to Cape Coral for a "bowl game" in 1981 and I loved the area. When I moved there in the 2000s, it was much more residentially developed. My best friends lived east of Del Prado, but I was west of Del Prado, so I'd always go boating with them, as they could get into...

If you come down to Orlando, I'll take you to Stasio's, since CIO has moved to SW FL.

Yes yes, I know what you're talking about now. CIO used to work at South Seas Resort. I lived in Cape Coral for a while, including the year that Central Florida got hit with 3 hurricanes. I think that North Capitva was partially flooded and they stopped letting people go out there for a few...

Are you talking about North Captiva or Cayo Costa? That area off of Cayo Costa is one of the heaviest spots for hammerhead sharks in the US. Like CIO, I used to live in SW FL, and I often went boating with one of my best friends and his wife (both were UM grads). Spent a lot of weekends out...

Yeah, my aunt lives on Lido. I actually really like Longboat, it just feels different. I like that long stretch that has golf courses and trees and whatnot. It's nice to drive.

St. Pete has been falling apart for decades. Some beautiful houses on the water, and then miles and miles of crap inland.

Keep in mind, many places in Tampa make the Cuban sandwich with the (historically accurate) Genoa salami, which can be a bit surprising to folks from Miami. I've gone to La Teresita for many years, it's just south of the football stadium. I don't know if La Teresita is the absolute best in...

Yeah, I'm 100% German on my mom's side, and salami is the popular deli meat. I saw some sort of "Food Network" type report on the Cuban sandwich, and the whole thing was that they were trying to make a sandwich that wasn't messy and could be eaten on quick lunch breaks or taken back into the...

It might seem wrong, but salami was in the original Cuban sandwich (from Tampa) that pre-dates the Miami Cuban sandwich by 60 years. I definitely understand the confusion, as the Miami Cuban is the better known sandwich. It's just one of those weird things.

Ha! Find a good place in Tampa and try it out. I like a bit of variety in a Cuban. 4 Rivers does a good one with BBQ pork.

Correct? Yes it is. The Miami Cuban sandwich didn't really become a thing until the 1960s. The Tampa Cuban sandwich was around for 60 years before that, but you can take whatever opinion you choose. "The first recorded mentions of a distinct Cuban sandwich survive in descriptions of...
