Absolutely. Chrissy never failed to pull out a win for Miami. Clutch.

Most Under Appreciated Star in a Canes’ Uni

Good article, thanks for posting. I forgot about Stanley Shakespeare. He was a key contributor to the 83 title team.

Yep! In all seriousness, Costa was recruited nationally. He was also named to the Philadelphia All-Decade team for 80s. FWIW. He just wasn’t great by the standards set by his predecessors. 19-3 as starter, but of course the defense should get a lot of the credit.

I just rewatched the CanesFreak2001 video of the game.

Any love for Yatil Green? As talented as anyone that’s been through Coral Gables but couldn’t stay healthy (hammies, IIRC). Was still a 1st round pick but season-ending training camp injuries prevented him from playing for two seasons at the Fins. Only played one season, then was cut by the...

The irony is Miami landed Portis because everyone else offered him as a DB.

Haven’t browsed every post in this thread, but how about RB James Stewart? I thought he talented, ran well for big back, but maybe wasn’t a fit for Erickson’s offense. Could be wrong. I thought he’d have a solid NFL career but IIRC he broke a leg and never recovered. Then he had some legal...

Everyone offered Faulk as a DB. Except SDSU. Had he had the same career at almost any P5 team he would have won the 92 Heisman easily.

Yes, agreed. We haven’t had a great DT since Vince. Some capable players, some okay players, no dominating players. Not even Willis.

I remember Sapp picking up (horse collaring) Lawrence Phillips and slinging him to ground. With one hand. And Phillips was no scatback.

Was going to add CJ Richardson and Bubba McDowell, but was beaten to them by other posters. Chris T. Jones was under appreciated at WR. Sadly, his QBs were Costa and Collins. Other WRs I’d name would be Andre Brown (‘88), Wesley Carroll (‘89-90) and Dale Dawkins (‘88-89). They don’t get the...

Phillips never developed into a ballhawk like Reed and Taylor. Still, late 1st round pick, SB ring on the NYG. Solid NFL player. Good choice.
