Plays that excited me, Plays that scared me

Good post and couldn't agree more with taking the "how would our opponents defend us" approach. If I'm an opposing DC, with respect to the passing game, I'm concerned about how we're going to use our TEs off of our run game, especially in the RPO and misdirection. Secondarily, with respect to...

He didn't really have a lot of opportunities to show out, but his short area stood out to me and his angles were cleaner than many of the ones I've seen Amari take. Even if just from chasing, we got flashes of athleticism and speed we need. On those aspects alone, I want to see him on the field...

    - We agree on Mccloud (as I noted earlier in the thread). And, that's coming from someone who was enamored with Mccloud's attributes early on in his career and hoped he'd put it all together. - A lot of Ivey's issues are in his head. The biggest sign of that is watching a DB on a run play. On...

I mentioned him in another thread. He's already impressive enough that I said this (he's in the lineup): "I'd have to ask around, but I wonder if KSmith has been worked in to some of the Safety rotation in practice. I realize he's fighting for and even splitting the "striker" job. If I'm...

Good eye. I noticed the Cam play. Impossible to comment on other than they need more game scenarios and time. Hopefully, they watch as much tape as idiots like us on message boards do, and correct little tendencies. On the other hand, Chaney bounced one outside and then only cutback inside when...

Ha. Thanks. Re: the Kicking: I'm actually just excited for us, as fans. I didn't feel the need to clench every time we kicked an extra point. Don't want to jinx it, but it was really just nice to not have your heart rate jump up to 150 when attempting a mere extra point.

It's almost stupid to say, but message board discussions have had an actual impact on my perspective. A long time ago, there was a fantastic poster on Grassy and Canestime (the source of how and why we spun off this site) named "Dynasty." If I'm not mistaken, he had played college DB. More than...

When we run a PA inside handoff and Mallory comes across the formation to catch a wide open pass in the flat, just know it was saved for that moment. I watched like 20 Lashlee games this offseason and saw it repeatedly with his HBack. Side note: i think Hodges is really good for that role.

That's a **** of a post. We'd have an awesome time watching a football game. Appreciate the nuance in your insight. If you scroll up to post #35 in this thread, you'll see I'm well-aware of the Malzahn effect. I've always been fascinated by his ascension and how he's settled into CFB, so I've...

Yeah. I talked about this last season. If they're analytics guys, I'd like to see more evidence or some deeper explanation. I know they "talk about it," but "Analytics" isn't just noticing your 3rd down conversion sucks and try to fix it. It's definitely not charting teammate support. It may...

I think we were doing exactly what Gus Malzahn does. If the opponent's hands are low, keep hitting him in the chin with the jab. With such little prep time (in terms of spring game, game-like scenarios, etc.), it's a bit odd so many people expected us to be the KC Chiefs during game 1. Whether...

I think your 50/25/25 scenario is a safe prediction. I think you're slightly underselling the potential volume, though. Ha. Everyone needs to put their arms around the fact Lashlee is a Malzahn disciple, but like maybe THE disciple. I know he has other experiences, but dude is going to run the...

I view Cam Harris this year somewhat similar to James Jackson in 2000. In the sense of a reliable, experienced elder who isn't as "shiny" as his backup(s). That said, I think Cam has a strong season and tries to hit the League. In 2000, James Jackson went for 1k on like 3x the carries Portis...

I don't care who starts, but Sam Brooks has to play more snaps than Mccloud against UL or we're going to see some cringeworthy chunk plays. Look, Zach has attributes I've been a huge fan of since he got here. But, I'm on the edge of my seat watching him choose gaps and close. If we mess around...

What's your biggest concern? Although imperfect and certainly will lean toward simplistic, I think it's a good fit for our program.

Agree we need way more than what we saw. The overthrow miss on the deep pass to Harley is probably a timing issue. The wide miss (to Payton, IIRC) on the triple option type RPO at the goal line was just a wild throw. I'd stress some patience. This is a really weird year (obviously), but...

Just 4 plays and what they mean for later. Since it's only game 1, let's start with the "bad." For context, most know I'm not on either extreme of the Blake Baker debate. I don't think he sucks. I don't think he's the head coach candidate some claim him to be. So far, I think he's a dude whose...
