Gotta love people *****ing that the schools are making too much money as if they're pocketing it. The same people think $4 million a year for a head coach is peanuts.
You're wrong about seeing none of it as has been stated previously. Which student athlete do you think generates a million dollars by himself? What player has graduated and we saw attendance drop?
If I was straight out of high school and getting free tuition, room and board, absolutely. I had to work a regular job and pay for those things and I even had to borrow money to make it happen.
I used two examples. Would you prefer i used the example of a McDonald's employee?
Players receive a stipend as well as free meals. I agree they need to reform the amount they receive, but doing something that would ruin the idea of student athletes is simply not going to happen.
Hospitals make more money off doctors than their salaries cost. Investment firms make more money off their fund managers than their salaries. This is how capitalism works.
The devil's in the details. Something difficult to game like players charging $10 for autographs at certain events would probably be acceptable, but you just have to be careful of things being used as pure payment. It would be easier to just give them a $15/hr stipend for time spent on field...
Agreed. But wouldn't you say its better for them to have some college than none at all? How many make NFL rosters? Isn't the real value in the education they receive?
Also, don't mistake my disagreement about paying them for approval of the current system. They absolutely should be getting more...
Then why make them meet academic qualifications? Do they really need to stay on campus? Is it really necessary for them even be students at all?

It's only rich kids that play those sports? How about track, swimming, baseball, basketball? This isn't a class warfare issue. They are supposed to be student athletes, not just minor league NFL.
It seems people think the NCAA keeps all the money they make. Quit buying into the all corporations and rich people are bad bull****.
Football revenue allows athletes in less profitable sports to get scholarships too. How many people here are cool with college athletes making 5 figures a year...
