They are a fun band live. I saw them as recently as a year or so ago as they celebrated the anniversary of Lets Face It here in Philly with old friends The Pie Tasters (Is that a great name for a ska band or what? ) . ****ie was in fine form and Ben still dances through the whole set.

One of my earliest memories is being taken down to the street corner in South Philly and listening while my cousin and his friends sang some doo ***. Ive liked that sound and those a capella harmonies ever since. I have this boxed set. Its a nice compilation.

I enjoy the Putumayo compilations. Music from all over the place. Good stuff. Introdduced me to a ton of music I barely knew about and Artists I’d never heard of. ,

With apologies to Live at Leeds and Who’s Next, my favorite Who work. I dont think it ever got it’s due, in part because Keith Moon crashed and burned during the tour in support of it. Nevertheless...

One of my favorite bands... Ever. This one with Robin Trower on guitar and the criminally underrated BJ Wilson on drums. Keith Reid (lyrics) was a poet, and long live The Commander, Garry Brooker (piano, vocals).

While he’s not in this performance, my guy Ginger Baker (drummer of Cream) had the good sense to play with Fela for some time. For a bloke from England, the African influence in his drumming has always been evident. Good stuff.
