My older son visited Baylor and he and my wife came back impressed with the campus. We also did a basketball tournament back in 2015 right next to Texas A&M and the campus seemed nice enough, at least in comparison to UT.

Houston, yes. City as large as Miami. Baylor gives you theoretical access to the Austin market....it’s only about an hour from UT. And Austin is exploding in population, SMU seems like small fry, but it’s proximity to Dallas in a NIL era could make it primed for a big time comeback.

This happened because Texas established the Longhorn Network and would not revenue share. Nebraska, Colorado, and Texas A&M had enough of the UT’s attitude and left them to play in a rump conference.

Wouldnt football take clear precedence in the SEC? Maybe at Kentucky basketball is dominant, but for most of the other schools these are second tier sports with secondary considerations.

Ironically I was talking about this a few days ago with a co-worker who is absolutely brilliant when it comes to analytics and football. He thinks that SMU is going to be well-served in the NIL world, given its access to the Dallas marketplace. I would not be against SMU for that reason either.

What did you think of the Irwin Center? That has to be the ugliest arena ever built? Literally the design is based off this - “hey, let’s fill a bucket with wet beach sand and turn it upside down!” That said, it is being torn down soon to make way for a medical expansion. Not entirely certain...

Yes, it’s location is unusual. The campus is in the middle of the city. It would be like UM existing in downtown Miami as opposed to Coral Gables.

Interesting point. I live in Austin, and I’ve been trying to make the competitive point to my Longhorn alumni friends who are geeked up about the awesome matchups they’ll now get to see. Sure, having Florida, LSU, or Alabama come to Austin will fill up that stadium (at first), but what happens...

Texas becomes a 7-5 to 8-4 team consistently, an unless they majorly improve recruiting. They cannot win the SEC under these circumstance.
