Is Orgeron the next Larry Coker?

We’re not going to lump Texas Tech or TCU with Texas in recruiting. That would be like saying UCF and USF for the big three. But your comment missed the point. You need the right coach to attract talent and win with it. Even LSU was losing Louisiana kids when they were middling under Miles.

Experience is good, but it’s also not a guarantee of success, just the same as not having head coach experience is a guarantee of failure. About the only background that is close to a sure fire result is plucking an assistant off the Saban tree winding up in failure. I hope Diaz puts it all...

The jury is still out but it certainly would be in everyone’s best interest if he continues to put it together and wins 10+ games this year. I think Blake James is stealing paychecks and is the Peter Principle personified, but the coaching search (or lack thereof) is old news and I hope Manny...

There is no guaranteed success in life, but being prepared certainly is a good starting point. Hiring the right coach is hard. Preparedness and education help increase those odds.

I agree with the second part 100%. But that contract was 100% approved by the board. Maybe they didn’t want to override BJ in his choice as AD and told him he will be leaving too if it doesn’t work out. Typically, if a persons compensation is going to wind up on the 990, it needs board approval.

How would he know when he hired Diaz in 6 hours. Richt retired in the afternoon and Manny was hired in the evening on December 30. It is insane that anyone signed off on that with zero due diligence to see who else is out there and interested. Knowing Miami, they probably still paid Korn Ferry...

Is Orgeron the next Larry Coker?

There was an old interview with Jeremy Foley, the old AD at UF, where he said at all times he had a list of five names in his desk to interview in case his coach left, had to be fired, died, whatever. You just never know in coaching and he always wanted to be ready. If BJ and Co weren’t...

I agree but you still need the right coach. If it was that simple, Texas would have been cleaning up and wouldn’t be in a decade plus malaise.

Talent largely hasn’t been the problem for the last 20 years. But that aside, go look at Coker’s class rankings from 2002-2004. 2002 5th 2003 4th 2004 3rd Literally the same class rankings. Hiring the right coach is hard and Brady/Burrow aren’t walking back through that door. To your point...
