Takeaway from the coach’s roundtable on ESPNU

Yep, and talent is about overall available game ready roster talent not just a few kids getting drafted.

Takeaway from the coach’s roundtable on ESPNU

This is spot on. It’s also why our talent has been less than the ’nfl lists’ might be used to imply. We continuously have empty spots, big holes, often on the line, terrible QBing, insufficient experience, depth and competition, and too few 4th and 5th year guys playing key roles. A couple...

Takeaway from the coach’s roundtable on ESPNU

Of course there was. But that’s partly because we play a **** schedule most years. If we are going to discuss what needs fixing to be relevant, not just to beat Bama, we should be honest about it, imo, not delude ourselves by pointing to misleading lists. The actual talent we fielded in the...

Takeaway from the coach’s roundtable on ESPNU

Is this real life? Who is contending we haven’t ‘underperformed’? I am pretty sure I have been more negative on our coaching staffs earlier than you or DMoney the past 18 years. What’s going in here is you guys are flailing at having a logical discussion. Your effort to dismiss nfl all pro...

Takeaway from the coach’s roundtable on ESPNU

You’re still trying to fight having an actual discussion about a topic you keep trolling “data” on. Why do this? the nfl “data” is flawed as a measure of our actual roster talent at Miami for reasons I have mentioned and you persistently ignore. The nfl outcomes for our kids recruited the...

Takeaway from the coach’s roundtable on ESPNU

That is entirely wrong. I don’t ‘accept’ them because I actually want to consider what they miss, just like with your nfl ‘data.’ You ‘accept‘ them because you are uninterested in what they’re missing and are just trying to pitch a story. The reality is recruiting rankings are inherently...

Takeaway from the coach’s roundtable on ESPNU

First of all, no one said anyone sucks if they don’t make a pro bowl. You sound ridiculous for writing that. Secondly, pointing to one guy doesn’t make the all pro argument flawed. Why don’t you look at how many total guys have been all pro the past decade? It’s a big number. Suggesting...

Takeaway from the coach’s roundtable on ESPNU

You keep saying stuff like this but never actually engage in a discussion of it. It’s amazing. Are you using the right stats/metrics? What might be flawed in your chosen metrics? What is it predictive of? What does it overlook? I just don’t understand why you keep citing these metrics if...

Takeaway from the coach’s roundtable on ESPNU

Save one year of vernon as a back-up, we are not even in the group of schools that have produced nfl all pros the past decade (and vernon was a shannon recruit). But you don’t like that topic so you ignore the issue by calling it small sample, unpredictable. Zero all pros from UM in a decade...

Man it is nice to see some others on this page.

Agree 100%. That is a key to his success, and it is central to evaluating that you pick kids who will develop themselves and compete. Butch got that.

Takeaway from the coach’s roundtable on ESPNU

IMO it’s not about our reputation. It’s about the nfl knowing pretty well how to assess kids.

Takeaway from the coach’s roundtable on ESPNU

Isn’t a big part of evaluating picking which kids will put in the work?

Takeaway from the coach’s roundtable on ESPNU

Exactly. If you want ‘development,’ you can skew recruiting to athletic projects. It might not be the best approach to winning cfb games, however, even if it helps with future nfl draft metrics. @DMoney

Takeaway from the coach’s roundtable on ESPNU

You are refusing to address the issue. You just ignore it and go back to your preferred narrative. Is it also random that none of the guys UM recruited in a decade have been all pros, or second team all pros? Have you thought about the difference between the probability that any one kid...

Takeaway from the coach’s roundtable on ESPNU

Agree 100%. People are generally really dumb, don’t understand probabilities and can’t differentiate correlation and causation. As an aside, IMO Saban knows what he’s looking for in kids. Just because he has his pick doesn’t mean he doesn’t need to pick well.

Takeaway from the coach’s roundtable on ESPNU

Thank God I'm not the only one who has to say this. It's a massive flaw in our fanbase's analysis.

Takeaway from the coach’s roundtable on ESPNU

Since it's the off-season and we're all locked inside, I figured I'd point out some misunderstandings around our allegedly great talent you often mention in threads. How about rather than focus on NFL drafts, we focus on NFL All Pro teams? It tells a pretty different picture than your draft...

It is what it is. If you bring a knife to a gun fight, don't be surprised when you get shot.

Losers complain about the cost of winning. Miami fans have bemoaned buying players since we seemingly stopped buying players. Either you compete to win like eeryone else, or don’t be surprised that you don’t win.
