They’ll get their games whether we discuss this or not. You can sit out discussing until midseason if you want. i am simply commenting on what we saw. And yes, it wasn’t all on zion by any means. that is kind of my point. our OL is deficient. I wrote elsewhere it was very unfair to blame...

The narrative changes. Everyone did not expect OL disaster. ‘Struggles’ can mean room to grow, or it can mean ‘oh ****.’. You act like there was no news in last night’s OL performance. i disagree. We have been discussing whether we had a talent deficiency at OL on this board for ages...

Weak bump? The question of whether pur OL was good enough was a big issue. You want to get Jarren killed so some kid who isn’t ready can get practice? What’s weak is how the narrative changes after the fact. We lack OL talent, wouldn’t you agree?

If he were playing better, we might be considering Scaife at a tackle spot, particularly given our tackle challenges. Reed on the bench means our best 5 doesn’t include him, I presume. He’s young. Not trying to harp on him, just an observation.

Further evidence that hype doesn’t equate to talent, and evaluations matter. Kennedy immediately showed he was a bad eval, as he’s not event relevant to the starting line despite our huge needs at OT. Reed may have been highly rated, and he’s strong also, so development isn’t his issue. Fair...

Good stuff in this thread also.

Having a few OL in the nfl is not proof of your overall OL talent being better than another schools. Especially at OL, where it’s really about the entire unit. Especially when we know our OL has not been good. Overall talent and depth and experience matter. So maybe we play a true frosh with...

You really need to consider probabilities and come back to this discussion. There are lots of kids who haven’t developed yet. In addition to predicting which ones will be good OL if they develop, you have to assess the risk they just won’t develop. And that risk is substantial. They might...

This is why Butch Barry is the most important position coach

You can’t have rules for how you recruit. It’s a standard-driven exercise. Alabama and Georgia get 300+ kids regularly who are really good. And plenty of under-developed giys do not, in the end, go on to develop and become good. The thing with the big kids is they need to be really good...

It’s a lot of things, but don’t kid yourself. We did not trot out suffificent talent on OL. Manny needs to majorly fix the OL talent so we have a full starting five and credible depth behind them. Jahair Jones and Hayden Mahoney should not be logging real minutes on UM’s OL.

D$ knows football and is passionate about Miami in particular. Certainly more than most on this site. Yes, he’s a homer. But we’re all here to doscuss the team and I mentioned him because he’d made a comment on nfl players earlier in this thread. Amd as for Mahomey and Jones, we did need to...

Talent is absolutely an issue on our OL. It’s absurd to say otherwise. Here’s what we had on the roster last season: Solid: St. Louis (and out of position) Capable: Gauthier, Donaldson Plausible: Gaynor, Boulware, J. Jones, Mahoney Non-contributors: Brown, Hillery, Herbert, Dykstra, Milo True...

As I have been saying for ages, it’s not this or that or the other thing, it’s all of it. Bad evals, lazy recruiting, crap S&C, bad coaching. IMO searels ‘17 class will not look like good evals. We’ll see. I am skeptical that Dykstra, Herbert and Hillary are ever front line players for us...

All you need to know about our evals is Gluten took Brandon Loftus. No one who watched Loftus play in HS or camps thought he was a P5 player. Most I recall thought he wasn’t even a D1 kid. ‘13: Odogwu, Knighton, Gall ‘14: Joe Brown, Nick Linder, Trevor Darling, KC McDermott ‘15: Jahair...

This is why Butch Barry is the most important position coach

Our OL in the NFL are not recent kids, and not indicative of the guys we have on the roster now. Nor Searels’ evals. Surely you don’t mean that. Not even sure why you’d go there. Linder wasnt a recent eval for UM, and his contract has nothing to do with this topic. You yourself note...

No doubt. But evaluations matter a lot, especially at OL. We have done that poorly, and Clemson has done it exceptionally well.
