I think it really depends on what your system is. I think for a pass rush specialist/rush end, you can get away with plugging in a freshman. Tackle is a little more rare because guys who are strong enough to play right away out of high school aren’t common.

I checked the depth charts for each of those teams and not a single one showed a true freshman starter. Maybe they were from the beginning of the season and those guys became starters later in the year but I didn’t just make that up.

This is a common misconception. Yes, they occasionally start freshmen but it’s not common. Alabama didn’t start a single freshman last year. Neither did Ohio State or Clemson. They do find ways to get impact freshmen into games though, even in a limited role. That’s what our staff needs to do...
