That is very true. Then again, you had wealthy people commiting tax fraud to get kids into these schools in operation "Varsity Blues" so some are just that ****y.

Look at the student body, what I noted has a ton of merit. But hey, let's live in la la land. The typical large state institution is closer to what this country is in regards to class and racial makeup than the typical Ivy and that's fine. It's almost like what I said struck a nerve, because...

The wealthy doesn't really have time to break us down into little groups.

When everyone has similar academic profiles(Outside of the kids that are obviously in because of things outside of merit), you need a hook. That was my point. Whether it's being from a part of the country that historically doesn't send kids to the Ivies, or being from a group that is...

I'm not taking about hiding assets for admissions, I'm talking about hiding assets in regards to being able to get financial aid. It doesn't make sense that a school where only 20% of the student body are first and second generation college kids, yet 50%+ are getting financial aid, despite the...

Harvard doesn't give merit aid, most Ivies don't. It's all economic based FA. Keep in mind, if you can fudge what your parents actually make(Or they do it anyway), you can make it seem as if you are significantly less well off than you truly are. Take it from someone that watched it happen...

18% are first and second generation college kids, but well over half receive federal financial aid. That gap actually further makes my point.

You realize those FA numbers can easily be fudged, or aren't an indication of anything, right? There are plenty of people, that are upper middle class, whose kids end up getting FA, merely because 1)The school is expensive as **** and 2)What their parents do leads to little income. I work with...

It's called a Development Admit. It was even mentioned by Singer when he was pitching his scheme to parents. There are three ways to get into these high end schools: The front door(IE MERIT), the backdoor(Development Admits, writing a huge check) and the side door, aka way he was doing which...

How so? Harvard is one of the few schools in existence that could easily build classes of the best and brightest without any outside considerations, and they don't. For every kid they accept that will go on to change the world with their intellect, there are 2-3 Jared Kushners out there that...

Actually Harvard hasn't changed. They've always been a glorified finishing school for the wealthy, where they can rub elbows with people from similar backgrounds. Yes, you've had some great kids come through Harvard, but for the most part, it's an old money club, with some infusions of new...

The ironic part is that the people most likely to benefit from those doors being opened are LEAST likely to get into Harvard or the ivies in the first place. The typical Ivy League kid doesn't need that door opened, because it was opened for them as an accident of birth. It's not an accident...

No one said getting in wasn't difficult, in fact I specifically said the challenge is getting in. The problem is that getting in isn't nearly the meritocracy sold to the masses. It isn't. It's more about standing out or doing certain things that get you attention. A lot of those "Things that...

Harvard is one of the most overrated places on planet earth. The challenge is getting in, once you are in it's no better nor worse than peer institutions. Plenty of mediocre grade grubbers manage to get accepted to that place and I've worked with some. Frankly, the getting in is less about...
