    2022 Roster Discussion

Didn't the summer of 2020 rule change help in that regard, i.e. need-based aid and academic scholarships no longer need be counted towards the scholarship limitations? I agree it's still not a level playing field, but let's keep recruiting and developing players that fit that criteria (a la...

What are you guys talking about - did we add a bunch of surprises to the roster after classes started?

Three returning everyday starters. A few of the incoming freshmen or returning sophomores will really have to step up if we are to have any hope of scoring runs. Although, it couldn't be much worse than last season's under-achievers.

So, no CDC - sort of what I expected, unfortunately. I assume this is based on enrollments w classes starting today?

Still no word on CDC's 2022 status?

Seems like a nice pick-up w the LH bat and some pop. I assume he competes for the starting job and DH's/1B some when not catching?

But why Tallahassee - it's almost like he's giving the program the middle finger. These are young, emotional guys so I get it. But I have the feeling it isn't going to magically make things better for him. He could well be a fish out of water in N Fl. But if he rakes next year, you have to...

That's why these next two years are so important IMO. DiMare needs to right the ship by the end of the '23 season, or it's time for him to go. I know some maintain he's untouchable, but at some point the pressure becomes too great on all involved to do anything but.

That '22 Class is loaded - we need to play a lot better next year and get some momentum/excitement going into next summer.

He's a '22 graduate, but from everything I have read, there's little chance of him making it to any campus.

Saw that - I wonder if we're recruiting the NE more aggressively because we are more confident in getting them to come and/or if something is amiss w the program and S Fl recruits as many on here have alluded to? Fraser used to recruit heavily in NJ, but that was because he was from there.

Agree. Hopefully, Gates comes back strong and gives us some LH pop in the middle of the order. Any word on Bodanza's status? We could use another LH RP.

I had the impression he had a year remaining.

I've wondered the same thing. I guess the question is whether his heart would be in it, if he's set on a career in science (and what that workload entails) and his brother is gone. Maybe someone else has some insight.

Even if true, can't imagine he'd forego the draft to come to Miami if he thought he was going to sit a year. Also, if he's a legit Top 100 kid, we'll only get two years from him if we don't play him right away. The onus is on these coaches to develop these stud freshmen a lot better and faster...

    2022 Roster Discussion

Do players of Mederos' caliber ever return after entering the portal, or does it usually indicate he already knows where he is going? My hope is that his late entry might have been a shot across the bow to Gino, or is that just wishful thinking?

And the interview was from just a couple of days prior - something doesn't add up. If he was practically assured a weekend spot, why transfer somewhere else? I wonder if this means there is an unexpected returning pitcher or two. Mederos is a draft eligible sophomore though, so, maybe he...

That makes more sense to me than as a middle IF since we'd be bringing him for his bat, especially given our shaky OF situation. And I don't see Yoyo playing anywhere other than 3B.

He left with a classy interview - props to the young man and best of luck to him. That said, what's disappointing to me is that Born wasn't given more opportunities. Given the dearth of proven OFs, let's hope that Gino and him are having some heart to heart discussions about removing his name.

Whether the "gones" are accurate or not, Gino had better be pounding the pavement in the transfer portal and/or hire the best hitting coach in the country.
