OK, all of that is true. But also consider the reality. If your team wins 11-12 games every year, you are probably not "missing" on many of your HS recruits and also not having to rely on the Portal as much. And if your team wins 8-9 games every year (or fewer), then you probably ARE missing...

The form of the transaction matters. Even on something as simple as "SEC-to-SEC transfer". The SEC does not allow an SEC school to take a transfer from another school if he is in bad standing with the first school. If the kid wants to get out of town ahead of the posse, he's entitled to do so.

Kinda-sorta. If you look at the timing, it was mid-summer semester (same as Graves). Some of your financial aid is for housing, food, etc. So...you could say "we are going to suspend you"...and the player could say "Portal, dude", and then still be enrolled in classes, while school could say...

He did NOT get kicked out. He likely had his financial aid pulled.

Waiver request. Chris Graves had to ask for a waiver. He entered the Portal July 19th. Took a couple of weeks for him to hear back. Not guaranteed. Not sure why people think that a kid who entered on June 30th could not get a similar outcome. We shall see. We shall see.
