Bat Signal UP!!! Purdue DT Branson Deen Transfers to Miami

Just to make sure I’m clear, there are (generally) four All-ACC teams so it’s quite a bit larger than most conferences. For instance, the SEC only has two all-conference teams (1st & 2nd). So I’m not saying they expect 1st team or anything. Just a team.

Bat Signal UP!!! Purdue DT Branson Deen Transfers to Miami

Deen injured his shoulder just before the Spring game and had to miss time after getting it cleaned up. Coaches honestly believe they stole one here as he’s been even better than they evaluated him. They believe he’s going to make an All-ACC team this year. Guidry runs a ton of five-man...

People inside the building say he knows it’s his money year and he is looking at it that way. His junior year was always the year to get the “Willis year.” Let’s hope that happens.

Whew. Asking to have a WLB who can take on blocks, run, chase, cover. That might be tougher to find than a 1T who can rush the passer.

He was one of our worst players against FSU. Jordan Miller far outplayed in the same role. Yes, he seemed to wear down. Another thing that makes Deen so valuable is he played 80+ more snaps than Jackson. That’s a 20% increase of DJ snaps and still played better.

You can remove the beginning to believe. It is 100% a different position. It’s an entirely different role. What you really want is the unicorn like you mentioned. A 1T who can also rush the passer. Having a 1T that can do that changes your defense. Not only does it allow your defense to be...

I have read a lot about Steele and I’m convinced he was brought in to install a more physical system and will move on soon. I’m not a fan of what he ran, but they needed a teacher and a coach who could make the transition to gap-sound, rather than havoc defense. To me, you want more eyes on...

Bat Signal UP!!! Purdue DT Branson Deen Transfers to Miami

It is a guess on my part, but I do believe he would like to be able to run some more odd fronts and Bear fronts. Getting a bunch of players who can play the 5T also points to that direction, as to run odd you don’t just need the 0T, you also need players who can go head up on a tackle and then...

Final point: I wrote an article prior to this season and noted the influence that Alabama had on Coach Cristobal and listed out the number of players that Alabama had on their DL who were between 270-290 and it was double digits. Then you look at his Oregon teams and he was recreating that on...

And to be clear, I love physical, old school, doubles eating NT’s. They’ve gone away with the popular spread offense, but if you’ve got one, you can really eat up the inside run in college. That changes the way you can play the pass. But if they’re only playing 15% of your snaps, it’s a more...

Various sources, sometimes I scrub them myself, sometimes I use an API to connect to data, sometimes it is easier to get through a PFF or SIS. But I also watch every play and write about them. Used to do that here.

We have a 1T on ~14% of snaps last year. We had a 0T on ~2% of snaps. We had a shaded 1 or 1i ~4% of snaps last year. So, yes, we had a player in the A-gap and inside of a G on roughly one out of every five snaps last year. I think we need a player who can hold a double as much as anyone on...

We are comparing the exact same guy. I just laid it out for you. A 5T is not getting pressure on the QB. He’s lined up directly over a T and his job most of the time in pass rush is to push the pocket and create a wall that the QB can’t step up into. Same as you don’t expect a 1T to get a...

Jackson played 414 snaps, 205 run snaps, 208 pass rush snaps. Jackson was a 3/4 T on 81% of his snaps last year. He was a 1 T on 18% of his snaps last year. 16 pressures for 7.7% 18 run stops for 8.8% Deen played 492 snaps, 205 run snaps, 287 pass rush snaps. Deen was a 3/4 T on 75% of his...
