I believe (could be wrong), that both conferences pay all of their schools the same amount so outside of one conference potentially having a bigger TV contract, is there anything else they would offer to make Miami pick one over the other? Which other schools would come? Help with any costs...

I have to think if ND had to choose between the SEC and big10, that they would go with the big10. Better fit geographically, academically and traditionally.

I agree that Miami and the other attractive schools are at a disadvantage, but whole heartedly disagree on the grant of rights - the point of the grant of rights was keeping the ACC together and it is doing just that. Do you really think the ACC would be in a better place if Miami, FSU, Clemson...

I don't think the grant of rights was the problem, it was actually very smart for protecting the conference from being poached (which is the Commissioner's job). The problem is the incredibly ****** TV deal they agreed to.

Except that local market fees are less and less important as people move away from cable and so many of the games are carried on national/streaming channels.

The whole thing is dumb - once you have super conferences even the teams that are good now are going to end up with 6-6 type records. Will Texas vs LSU be special when it is a regular occurrence and they both have multiple losses? Meanwhile a bunch of schools are going to be left out entirely...

MD and Rutgers, who both got added to the Big 10 b/c of TV markets - something that didn't matter shortly after they were added - are the real winners of the last 10 years.

How many kids on the team were even born the last time we had a rivalry with Nebraska, OSU or PSU? The OSU championship game will be 20 years ago this year. The big 10 might make sense for us for other reasons, but I think it's a stretch to rely on 20+ years ago rivalries.

I could see VT wanting, but that would still leave at least 2 more. And are the states of NC and VA going to let public schools go and leave behind other public schools (UVA & NC State)?

I am pretty sure that that is just the penalty to leave and that the ACC would still own the television rights until 2036 which is the real thing keeping teams from moving. There is the question of whether that would hold up in court, but the only way to test that is by trying to leave which...

The home field advantage for the late season games... cold weather teams having to come down into heat and humidity, Miami having to play regularly in cold/snow. Sadly, I think that would tip more in the cold weather teams' advantages.
