This is a fun thread to bump since Marky Walton is now a starter in the NFL and thats pretty cool. Barkley is pretty good...but South Florida backs are also pretty good and like LIFE...they find a way.

Yeah, good blocking does win championships. But as an aside...teams speak with their money...and right now, running back average salary is lower than every position outside of Long Snapper and Fullback. Even kickers and punters average a higher salary. Look at the Steelers and the LeVeon...

Your example kind of straw-like. So I won't focus on it. We're talking about building a real team. This isn't fantasy football. Barkley is a good player. But running back isn't a position that you build your team around in this era of football for a few different reasons. At the top of the...

This year's QB crop might not be any better than the group you just listed off...looking like Dwayne Haskins and Justin Herbert are the top two QBs. Your mileage may vary on those two, to be honest - and its not a lock that either one declares for the draft. Lets say, even after that, you like...

Here is the catch, and the Gurley example is the best to use here...the Rams would still stink if Goff still stunk. I don't even consider the finances...I am just talking draft capital...taking one in Round 1 is nonsense, IMO. I don't care how good he is. You can get a good one later and you...

They also drafted some guy - the actual Rookie of the Year in 2016 - Dak Prescott. What's your point? Mine is...Running Backs aren't worth the investment.

Yet, the Giants are still 5-8. You can be the leagues best running back and it still doesn't matter to winning football games. How you can justify spending a high pick on the position continues to blow my mind. Jaguars went from a 10 win team last year to a 4 win team by year two of the...

Just for some reference. Combine times of other South Florida running backs...all just so happen to be successes in the NFL and outplayed their draft slot. Devonta Freeman 4.58 (3rd Round) James White 4.57 (4th Round) Lamar Miller 4.40 (4th Round) Dalvin Cook 4.49 (2nd Round) Alex Collins 4.59...

Mike Gesicki, the TE, will be a 2nd rounder. The WR, DaeSean Hamilton likely a 3rd rounder. They are good players. Chris Godwin was a 3rd round selection last year at WR from Penn State. Trace McSorley isn't a pro football player by any means, but he was a very good quarterback...

Only thing they had on offense? They will have a WR and TE drafted pretty high this year. Lol Do people watch games or no?

All of this is great...but speed scores, even elite ones, do not translate to professional success.

Mark Walton, at minimum, is James White. People that don't think he's a Top 4 Round NFL pick are nuts.

Teams employ up to four running backs, many situational, many versatile, to run their offense. Availability isn't really the most important ability in the NFL when it comes to running backs. This is why Minnesota still finished 7th in the NFL in total rushing despite being in the bottom 10 in...

Watch the tape on Barkley. I am not saying he's a bust...but he is hardly some generational talent. In today's NFL, what makes running backs successful is the ability to at least get what the offensive line gives you. Its what makes Zeke Elliott, Leonard Fournette, and Todd Gurley such safe...

South Florida backs always outperform their draft slot. I would wager a paycheck on Sony Michel outperforming Barkley and I'd consider it safe money. Mark Walton? I'm not so sure there, but he will far exceed his draft slot, for this I am certain. For those hating on Dalvin...even after...

Barkley, IMO, isn't in the same class as Zeke, BUGA, Dalvin coming into the draft. I wouldn't doubt that many evaluators place him after Joe Mixon and maybe even Derrick Henry among recent RB prospects. It'll likely sound hindsight, but what makes Barkley a better prospect then say Kareem Hunt?

I am not sure why anyone is neg'ing the OP. One of the NFL Draft's truths...never doubt the South Florida talent over other state talent. While its certainly a hot take, its not a bad one. NFL running back success is heavily reliant of situation a player goes to, not the round they are...
