Multi-sport athlete Xavier Muhammad made the trip down from Texas for an unofficial visit during Miami’s first weekend of spring practice. The four-star defensive edge spoke very highly of the Hurricanes, especially admiring the physicality Miami practices and plays with. Muhammad will officially visit June 5, and here’s what he had to say to me following his unofficial visit:

On his overall visit:

“The visit went good. I just like the intensity of practice the way everybody's out there competing
and having fun.”

“I like how they got after it on the offense and doing the different pass rush moves and being violent and physical at the ends. I like that.”

“[The visit] went good, just catching up with everything, talking a little bit about ball and where they see me at. And they see me as versatile with my basketball skills translating into the football field.

On where he sees himself in Miami’s scheme:

“Yeah, I see myself fitting anywhere to be able to help the team out. And I just like everything that the D-line got going on.”

“They really see me doing everything, to be honest.”

On his relationships with the coaching staff:

“Well both [Jason Taylor and Damione Lewis], I like how they're real to the down-to-earth. Good coaches and they just show proof of them developing different players with where they're at now.”

“[Cristobal’s] happy to have me out here. He's also a really good coach. It's fun to be with him talking ball and just reconnect with him.”

On where Miami is in his recruitment and why:

“It's definitely in the top five.”

“Just how they treat me. Like I said earlier, them showing different players and where they’re at now and their development.”

On the defensive line, who stood out to him during practice:

“Oh, yeah. Number 10 and number 12.” (Damon Wilson and Marquise Lightfoot)

On any players he has a connection with on the roster:

“So I kind of somewhat grew up and played against Jackson Cantwell, the tackle, because I did shot put with him when I was in the Junior Olympics. That was the only time I beat him. I think I was the only person to do so. That was big.”

“I [didn’t get a chance to talk with him], but next time I come, I should definitely be able to talk to him.”
