With today’s Selection Sunday bracket reveal, Miami Basketball learned its first opponent in the 2026 NCAA Tournament. The Hurricanes will play Friday in St. Louis, Missouri, against the Fighting Dennis Gates squad from Missouri in the 7-vs-10 matchup in the tournament’s West Region.

Before we take a deep dive into the matchup and Miami’s tournament draw as a No. 7 seed, here’s a quick biography of Dennis Gates’s group out of the SEC.

A lot of overlap between these two teams; with the advantage. Anthony Robinson ii was Tre Donaldson’s teammate in HS — Tre was one year older. Jai Lucas coached Mark Mitchell at Duke. And Marcus Allen played at Mizzou last year.
 
They started January by beating UF and Kentucky, but were really inconsistent after that. Lost to an Ole Miss team that we handled in non-conference, got destroyed on the road against Alabama and a bad South Carolina team, but then randomly beat Vanderbilt and Tennessee at home February. Haven't won a game since beating one of the worst teams in the SEC - Miss St. - in late February.
