CanesInsight and CanesTime on Instagram recently interviewed Dante Allen, a four-star shooting guard signee from Miami, discussing his decision to join the Hurricanes, as well as his favorite song and food, plus more.
Dante is a 6-foot-4, 220-pound combo guard from Montverde Academy, he is currently ranked as the No. 42 player in the Class of 2025. Additionally, he holds the position of the No. 6 combo guard nationally and is recognized as the No. 10 player in the state of Florida.
When did you realize you wanted to be a Cane?
It was mainly on my visit, just the feel I got being there, being around the coaches, how I saw myself becoming a better player and succeeding on the court, just felt right for where/should continue my career.
Who do you think your NBA comparison is?
I've gotten some Derrick White from my experienced people around the game, just from the impact I have around all aspects of the game, and someone everyone wants on their team.
Where do you see the future of the Canes with coach Jai Lucas?
For myself, I see myself growing as a guard. I think having some older guys that have been around the college game helps me adapt to what I'll see and become as a player. And for the team, I think a tough and ready team that wants to bring Canes basketball back to a top team in the conference and country.
I am sure it was hard to leave Riviera as back-to-back champs, but going to a school like MVA had to be an amazing experience. Tell us a bit more about that decision and how you grew as a person/player?
Yeah, it definitely wasn't an easy decision, but as a player, it in so many ways helped with what college is about, from the speed, physicality, and overall having to get better as a player. And for myself, it helped me grow up a bit. You know, being up here, you gotta learn to take care of yourself.
