Miami freshman guard Shelton Henderson isn’t playing like a freshman. Not even close and the national media has been taking notice.

He’s been one of the guys Miami. Strong with the ball, drives down hill great, and he’s finishing through contact. And NBA trainers see it.

NBA player development coach Phil Beckner talked about Henderson on his podcast and was straight-up raving about him.

“The sky is the limit for him… Not because of his size and talent…”

That’s what most people bring up first. The build. The athleticism. The tools. And yeah, he looks NBA-ready physically.

But Beckner wasn’t on that.

“But because of his character and mentality.”Said Beckner “He’s better. He’s different.”

And if you look at the numbers, Henderson has been putting up solid numbers in his first season as a Hurricane, especially as a freshman in the ACC.

Henderson is averaging 14.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists, shooting 59.1 from the field, 27.9 from three, and 57.4 at the line in his freshman season.

Right now, Shelton Henderson is on NBA radars, but he is not viewed as a first-round pick. If the draft were held today, most early 2026 NBA Draft big boards project him in the second-round range and some have him going undrafted.

When someone who trains NBA players says a freshman is “different.” It’s what you want to hear for Miami.
