Notre Dame is one of the biggest names in college football. They’ve won games all over the country, but Miami has been a tougher spot. The Fighting Irish haven’t beaten the Hurricanes in Miami since 1977.
Every time they come down to play in Miami Gardens since then, it’s been the same story: the Canes send them packing. In the last six meetings at Miami, Notre Dame is 0-6. It doesn’t matter the decade or the coach, Miami has had its number at home for a while.
The rivalry stretches back decades. Notre Dame picked up wins in Miami in the 1950s and ‘70s, with the last victory coming in 1977, when they beat the Hurricanes 48-10. But the Canes dominated in the latest matchups of the ‘80s and beyond. In 1985, 1987, and 1989. The most recent meeting was in 2017, when Hard Rock Stadium was rocking and the Hurricanes shut out the Irish 41-8 under the lights. (Still my favorite game as a Hurricanes fan.)
In the last six meetings at Miami, Notre Dame averages 6.6 points per game.
Next weekend, Notre Dame’s C.J. Carr will make his first career start, and he’ll be doing it at what is expected to be a sold-out Hard Rock Stadium. Carr has yet to throw a pass in a college game.
On the other side, Miami has one of the best quarterbacks in the country in Carson Beck, who boasts a 24-3 record as a starter.
Now, that game is just around the corner. Can Notre Dame finally break the decades-long drought in Miami, or will the Hurricanes keep the streak alive?
