According to the weekly viewership report, 10.8 million people tuned in to watch Miami’s 27–24 win over Notre Dame on Sunday, with a peak audience of 11.8 million. The matchup went down as the second-most-watched Sunday college football game ever.

For comparison, Miami’s season opener last year against Florida drew 6.6 million viewers on ABC.

This weekend, the Hurricanes return to action against Bethune-Cookman in a game that will stream exclusively on ESPN+. While the broadcast likely won’t come close to Sunday’s massive audience, it will be interesting to see how the streaming numbers stack up against other early-season matchups.

Elsewhere in week one, the game between No. 3 Ohio State and No. 1 Texas led the charts with 16.6 million viewers, making it the most-watched game of the opening weekend.

Tell me again why the SEC or Big Ten wouldn’t want to add Miami to their respective conferences?

What holds Miami back from being a ratings monster, more than anything, is the schedule they play in the ACC. There are too many weak opponents, from a market perspective.

This year's schedule is going to show us what Miami's TV share looks like when given a higher octane schedule against bigger market teams. And even this season wouldn't compare to a BIG10 or SEC slate.

You guys should already know the talking points. Nobody wants to watch an ACC. The numbers were inflated.

Fans didn't want to watch Miami. They wanted to watch Notre Dame.
