Miami men’s basketball fourth-year guard Tru Washington has entered his name into the transfer portal as of Saturday morning, his father confirmed to CanesInSight.

Washington started in the majority of the Hurricanes’ games this season, though he was briefly benched midway through the year. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard averaged 11.9 points and 1.8 assists in 27.5 minutes per game, primarily coming off the bench. He shot 44.3 percent from the field and 35.2 percent from three-point range.

He will now be seeking his third collegiate program.

He clearly wasn’t alright with the off the bench role. I can understand why because as of this moment he is a better player than Allen. Significantly better in my opinion but I know many on this board disagree with that.

Glass half full outlook has me thinking maybe he knows of another guard coming in and that is what led him to the decision ultimately. We will see, but no matter how you slice it, this is a big loss from my point of view

Edit: just realized this is a written article from Trinton so this has been in the works for a bit then. Not surprised by that but wanted to point that out

Hoping this means that Jai feels comfortable in landing another backup pg and a good starting pg

Ugh had a feeling this was a possibility but was hoping it wouldn’t happen

Doesn’t mean he’s gone. Just that he’s open to it. Can’t blame someone for trying to capitalize on their nil moment and this allows him to renegotiate with us too.

Also probably wants to start somewhere

Pringle went portal and then came back pretty quickly.

It would have been a huge mistake to start him alongside Allen next year. You absolutely retain the younger player and Tru clearly did not want to come off the bench.

I understand and I agree. Still wish we could have kept him as the spark off the bench he was this year for us
