Miami Among Early Teams to Watch For Arizona State QB Sam Leavitt

As first reported by On3, Miami is an early team to watch in the recruitment of Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt, one of the top names expected to enter the transfer portal this offseason.

Along with the Hurricanes, three other schools to watch are Oregon, Indiana, and LSU, according to On3.

Leavitt has built a strong name for himself at Arizona State as a tough, dual-threat quarterback who can beat teams with both his arm and his legs.

During the 2024 season, Leavitt threw for over 2,800 yards, had 24 touchdown passes, and just six interceptions. He also ran for more than 400 yards and scored five rushing touchdowns.

In an injury-shortened 2025 season, Leavitt stayed efficient. He passed for over 1,600 yards, threw 10 touchdowns with only three interceptions, and added 300 rushing yards and five more rushing touchdowns.

Miami’s interest makes sense. Under head coach Mario Cristobal, the Hurricanes have been active in the transfer portal. Cristobal has already shown he can develop quarterbacks, from Cam Ward, who became the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft, to Carson Beck, who is expected to reach the NFL.

This is a situation to watch closely. If and when Leavitt officially enters the portal, Miami looks ready to be involved early.

hate to say this, but if Lane and LSU want this kid, he is a lock to LSU. They have the coach, game day atmosphere, money, and LSU and Lane will draw elite talent for support
Lane also looking to make a splash to show Tigahs, they made right hire
Sorsby or Raiola nebraska 2 year left would be great

Good talent, electric when he escapes the pocket..

He needs to prove his maturity. The way he left ASU was ******.

The staff will vet him though and if he passes, then he's good to go

But miami has money and NFL QB development proven

It's his last year. If the money is the same, id personally pick a cfp team. Won't be LSU.

With that said, he will probably pick LSU, haha
I don't think they fired Kelly and hired Lane to go 8-4/9-3 there next year. They will spend whatever they need to put together a CFP contending team next year.

Won’t be available until summer either like Beck was

I’d pass because of the injury. I loved pre injury Leavitt. What do you think?
Yeah im not sure if that injury sapped any of his escapability/scrambling ability which is a big part of his game. Not sure if we'd be able to go through a workout but I doubt it, I don't think it takes him off our list but I think it moves him down a couple spots

Would be one **** of a one year improvement. Especially with that schedule. Offense needs juice. Trenches need work
