Miami Hurricanes football star freshman wide receiver Malachi Toney is switching up his look for the 2026-27 season.

After wearing No. 10 during his breakout freshman campaign, Toney is officially moving back to No. 1, a number he’s worn before and one that fits his role.

The change also clears the way for new Hurricanes quarterback Darian Mensah, who previously wore No. 10 at Duke Blue Devils football and will keep that number in Coral Gables.

Toney is coming off one of the best freshman seasons in school history. He posted 109 catches for 1,211 yards and 10 touchdowns across 16 games, leading all freshmen nationally in receptions and receiving yards. He earned ACC Offensive Rookie of the Year honors and was named a FWAA Freshman All-American. He became the first Miami freshman to eclipse 1,000 receiving yards and just the seventh Hurricane ever to hit that mark.

He recorded at least five catches in 13 games, including a 146-yard performance at Virginia Tech and 135 yards against Louisville. Toney also flashed versatility, adding 113 rushing yards and a touchdown on 23 carries.
